Where mammals bodies are covered with hair and fur, reptiles bodies are covered with horny epidermis of dry scales. The construction of reptile scales differs completely from those of fish and amphibians.

Mammals have milk glands. Reptiles have no glands. The brain of reptiles is relative smaller than mammal brain's. Reptiles have no ears, in other words they can't hear. Reptiles are usually meat eaters.

Reptiles are cold-blooded animals they can not regulate their own body temperature and are directly influenced by the temperature of the environment.

Most reptiles lay their eggs in the ground but like mammals care for their little ones, reptiles do not usually care for their eggs or young ones. The yellow section in a reptile egg is large and supplies nutrition to the embryo throughout its development.

Reptiles can't fly but some snakes and lizards can flatten their bodies and float out of high trees.
Reptiles are also one of the species that can grow very old. Especially turtles they can reach ages of 150 years.
