Spiders : Tarantula as a pet

The body of an arthropoda is divided into two parts namely the cephalothorax and the abdomen.

1. cephalothorax
2. abdomen

Remember if you see a thing in the garden that looks like a spider but it has only six legs then that thing is an insect only, spiders have 8 legs.

I know that girls like to have puppies or kittens for pets the boys would like to have spiders.

That's why I decided to teach you a few things about Tarantulas. The first thing I want you to remember is that it is illegal to keep a spider as a pet. The good news is, you can keep one as a pet but only if it is an exotic specie and you have a permit for it.

There are currently more than 800 described species of tarantulas in the world you can choose from.

The Curly Hair is one of the 800 spider species that can be handled with great ease and would be the best choice for a pet. His nickname comes from the curly hair on its body, all the other species have straight hair.

They originally occur in the rainforest of Honduras in South America. These spiders are usually 15 cm tall but they can grow bigger. They are not like normal spiders who spin a web. These tarantulas cover the ground around the nest with a layer of silk and as soon as they feel something coming closer to the nest they go out to catch their prey instead of catching their prey in a web like normal spiders do.

Here is two reason why the Curly Hair Tarantula is the best option for a pet. In general a female spider eat the male after they have mate, but the Curly Hair female doesn't. All tarantulas are venomous but a curly hair tarantula's venom isn’t very strong at all.

Before the breeding season the female eat as much as she can, then she makes a egg sac which contains between 300 and 700 small eggs and is the same size as a chicken egg. The little ones breed out after 6 to 7 weeks.

a Female tarantula can reach the age of 10 - 15 years and a male 3 tot 7 years.
