The 13 years mark one of the most uncomfortable ages when we see life in hindsight. The change from childhood to adolescence, the personality of each of our friends - who sometimes seem to be ahead of our ideas for years - and that feeling that we are no longer small can be quite hard. And we only think that we need freedom.
Just remember that age faithfully to know that our children are not very different from how we were, and that just like them, we craved much more than we knew we could have. However, we already know too much to grant all the liberties that a 13-year-old wants, and sometimes parents may be accused of overprotecting their children, or of limiting them to things they should already know or do. That is why experts say that this is an age that they should already reach knowing the following things.
1. The money costs.
Young children can see money as something magical, but a bigger boy who already brings his own money to school to buy a snack needs to know what it costs to get it.
It is not the same thing that a child can count on unlimited money or not having any money because his parents ran out, if he knows in advance how much he has per month for his expenses, and can even get something extra if he helps in home or in the neighborhood with some homework.
Here too, the importance of thinking ahead should be emphasized, so that a certain amount should be destined for your savings, which when delivered will make you much happier.
2. Cook something simple.
From small children away from the kitchen by knives or flames, but then we forget that they grow and reach a certain age without even knowing how to cook an egg. In the time when you can get anything to heat it immediately in the microwave, it is important that they know the value of the nutritious food and that they learn to cook at least five basic dishes that will get them out of any hurry.
3. Learn to dialogue.
At that age, what they most want to show is that they are not children. That may be the best thing that happens to you, because that way you can learn to communicate without wanting to tear your hair. Effective communication is two-way and as a mature person, you should know that they will seek to attack. However, by showing them that they are heard, that their comments are taken into account and that they can be trusted with personal information that is not told to the children, they will feel the honor of being treated as adults.
Keep in mind that many children can be much more reluctant to communicate effectively so you do not have to give up after the first attempts.
4. The actions have consequences.
If they run out of money, they are given more, if they make a mistake, they are forgiven, if they do not do a task, they do it for them. The worst way to educate a child is to give him everything he wants, when he wants. You have to guide them to the path of success through responsibilities.
Maybe the first times you do not wake up, do not suffer consequences, but if you really want to be responsible, you should know that the consequences of not waking up with an alarm is that they will have to rush to fix themselves and even eat a less elaborate breakfast.
5. Cleaning in every way.
There is an age for everything and the more they grow, children can have more complex obligations. There is nothing like someone 13 years old who does not know how to make his bed, while another is cutting the path of his yard and that of his neighbors. While four-year-olds can help recognize things, the older ones can learn the essentials of gardening.
On the other hand at age 13 the hormonal changes are the largest, so that parents can choose to talk casually about body cleansing habits, the same situation that opens the window to the uncomfortable but necessary talk of sexuality.
6. Sense of orientation.
Although they are very small to learn to drive, they are not to know their city and especially their neighborhood. Many teenagers begin to expand their horizons and increasingly get away from home. They should learn about colonies, streets, directions and how to always return home safely.
7. It is not the school but its education.
The idea that the only thing they have to worry about is school is as antiquated as it is illogical. Although they do not have the problems of an adult, their brain rarely has education as the most important thing in their lives. They need to understand that it is not just about qualifications but about knowledge. The best way to achieve this is by giving them to understand how it is that each subject they attend has a use in daily life.
The most important thing is that before the age of 13 they are completely responsible for their tasks and projects. Helicopter parents, those who are always aware of the jobs their children have to do, are the most responsible for their children not learning.

Good post that you made today. The age of 13 years is fundamental for the development of emotions, attitudes and physical evolution. If we do not teach our children at this important stage, we are giving them problems for their future. Greetings @sequini

Thank you very much @mariafernandajr you are right. It is in our hands the preparation and aptitude that our children will have to become adults.

These are some really good points. Well done, I think many of them should know about this, better yet, it should be taught in school
