The Impotence of Proofreading

in steemiteducation •  7 years ago

I write this post because I used to be a guilty player, I too was always in a rush, way too busy to proofread my work. I would hit the “post” button over-confidently and nine times out of ten my eagerness would come and bite me back in the butt. I had the attitude that my work was always perfect, always in check. But more than half the time, it wasn’t so, and I paid the price.

Do yourself a favor and make proofreading one of the most important tasks when compiling a post for Steemit – you’ll thank me later!

Five Reasons Why You Should Proofread Your Work

  1. Authority. - A sloppy-written post makes you look amateur, no matter how clever or professional you are. One silly spelling mistake or grammatical error that is overlooked is all it takes for someone to dismiss you and your message.
  2. Technology fails. - The spelling and grammar check software you use is far from perfected - how can it be when things are constantly changing? Software has the potential to become buggy and cannot always be relied upon. Use it to make life simpler if you must, but trust the human eye too.
  3. Rushed work LOOKS rushed. - Your readers can’t be fooled, they know when they are getting a half-hearted piece of work. Rather impress them with something more solid and substantial.
  4. Wait, I forgot something! - In our haste to get the “job” done, we often omit material that is required for the purpose of the post, this happens all too often! By proofreading your writing, a little switch might go off and you will be reminded of something that needs to be included in your text.
  5. Set your mind at ease. - This point is the most important one for me. I would hit “send” and then get myself all wound up with worry, “was everything correct?” – sigh. Why did I do that to myself? So, avoid the panic, and PROOFREAD your stuff!

Set your mind at rest and do yourself a favor, give your articles one last read before you send them out into the big wide world. You will find that you are actually saving time by doing this. TIP: read your post out loud, it makes a difference in spotting those sneaky mistakes and errors. Proofreading is impotent!

Yes, I agree that the importance of proofreading is often overlooked, I use this free app, "Grammarly" and it has helped save some time. Still then, not sure if it would have caught impotence ;)

I use Grammarly too, but it has let me down quite a few times :)

Haha love the title

The impotence of a good title can't be overstated

A very good piece of advice. (I love the impotence bit) We are all guilty of the rush to post, proofreading is a must. Another bit of advice, write often, practice makes perfect.
