Having being a part of steemit for a few weeks myself, as i write i can say this post is also considered as a note to self. Upon signing up on steemit with so much excitement over the opportunity i believe steemit offers to put to practice one of my dream of becoming a blogger, obvious improvements and also worth while earnings for my effort!! without much ado i posted a pic ( now if i'am being honest, it wasn't such a wonderful picture though). Zero earnings, wow! I wondered why, with the amount of earnings i see on other peoples posts. Well after 2 other failed attempts i decided to take a break on posting to find out what these other people were doing that i did not do. After all i have always being one that looks on the bright side. So i took the decision to Read-up, observe and Learn from others before i resume posting. This hopefully being the first of many to come. On making my observations i have come up with the following thought or you can say quotes which i believe will definitely help many of us.

  • After sign-up do not be in a hurry to begin posting except for maybe the introduceyourself post. Else the few upvotes you get might discourage you before you even begin the real work (especially for those that do not know anyone on the platform as at the time of signing up)

  • "..Readers rule the world": Read the quick start guide and FAQ, not just once, revisit it for clarifications when necessary. Read some of the posts referenced in them. Starting with a little bit of first hand knowledge builds confidence, makes you hopeful and offers some direction on the niche you would want to focus on.

  • Try to build relationships first, progress in most of areas of life is achieved through relationships and networking: Read posts, make honest comments, give replies, that way you are creating visibility for yourself and might also gain some following and earn something from curating and commenting.

  • Seek to follow credible users (from their posts you can tell) you know the....Whales, Dolphins, high earners etc.: connect with some of them. Read their posts with an open mind, you will learn a thing or two and also you get ideas about what to write by reading other peoples posts. Strive/work to create quality, original and valuable contents.

  • Do not be deceived or carried away by the following you gain as a beginner nor fall for those follow for follow stunts, trust me you will only get discouraged and hurt. Read this post by @yogirajsingh:follow for follow work on steemit? funny post, but you'll get the picture.

  • Do not be discouraged or envious of whales, dolphins and high achievers on steemit: Believe me most of them have paid the price for the top. Read this post by @aggroed:throwback thursday "how i made 7 cents in 5 posts.... " .Read and be inspired!

  • Power up! power-up!! power-up!!! that should be your focus at the start don't be in a hurry to cash out. The amount of SP a user owns determines how much influence the user has on steemit and also determines curation rewards.

  • Consistency, a positive mindset, determination, persistence, hard work and creativity always pays in the long run.

  • Tell everyone about steemit, organize meetups, create communities: they say two good heads are better than one, coming together can help form a support system for a start.

Hopefully these thoughts of mine will encourage and motivated some newbies like myself ( loads of new users are added daily - wow, steemit!). Steemit is a great opportunity, its community, its love and sharing, its hope, its an educational platform, and its a dream come through!! Together we win and make steemit bigger and better.

Thank you for taking the time to read.

Come for the rewards, Stay for the community!!!

cheers
