Ice cream is 100% part of our monthly grocery shopping list, sometimes we have to make a second set of buys midway through the month. My son loves any kind of ice cream and my husband especially loves vanilla and fudge ice cream. As I am typing and editing and re-editing this post my son came and asked for some of the chocolate and salty fudge ice-cream in the fridge.
To make our ice cream eating sessions more interesting, apart from the different and variety of toppings, I decided to plan an ice cream making session through using science.
Make ice cream in a bag.
You will need the following:
- 1 cup whole milk (full cream milk)
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 1/2 cup of kosher salt
- Ice cubes
- Large and small ziplock bags.
Makes enough for one serving
Instructions
- Measure out all the ingredients.
- Combine the milk, sugar and vanilla extract in the small bag.
- Throw the large ziplock bag halfway full with ice cubes.
- Sprinkle the kosher salt over the ice cubes.
- Place the small ziplock bag inside the bag of ice and salt mixture. Make sure both of the bags are sealed perfectly.
- Start shaking the bag.
- Shake for about 5 to 10 minutes until the mixture begins to set (harden) to the consistency you like ice cream to be.
- When you are satisfied to remove the small bag and place the ice cream in the bowl.
- ENJOY!
This is a little short post to start off the weekend, one of the few we get. Cherish every single moment you have with your children.

I love ice cream but I never tried to make it at home myself, making it in a bag sounds like an interesting idea. Do you discover these methods by trial and error?
