Steem School Episode 38 - Why and When You Should Ignore or Mute People

Today's post is about when you should legit ignore people or mute them.

First of all, everyone can decide for themselves who they mute or who they ignore, the guidelines here are mine and I will state the reasons and methods why I mute or ignore people below.

Steemit in itself promotes sheep culture as money is involved, and everytime money is involved some people give up their sense of self to lick your damn ass for some cash.

On a platform like Youtube or Social Media platforms like Twitter you do have sheep culture as well and it is censored, however, the people there are usually not getting money for their comments or posts which is why they talk so much shit (at least honest).

Here on Steemit, you have to be suspicious because most comments are not honest because people do not want to lose money and secretly they are haters, jealous or just trolls.

In other words, people are faker here than on any other platform because money is involved.

To all the shit commenters: Don't think that we do not see your fake shit, Steemit veterans or smart people who are not part of the herd certainly see through all this ass kissing fake shit, the copy paste shit & the generalized comments.

I ignore people who are always nice and I do not take them seriously because they lack a spine. That does not mean that I mute them, it simply means that I am tired of their fake, weak shit.

Reasons Why I Mute or Ignore People

1. The copy paste comments which are often generalized which have nothing to do with my article. The author of that copy paste comment hopes to get an upvote from me and I usually do not give such fucked up pussy-shit comments my upvote. They belong to the people that I mute.

2. The generalized comments authors who read the title and jump to conclusions to get your upvote. Those people are muted.

3. The asskissers who read the title and give an effort but who permanently kiss ass. Now you say that is nice and kind and all that weak shit and I don't give a fuck. The reason why you need to ignore such people and mute them if they continue to talk so much fake shit is because they are not trustworthy, they simply want your upvote and they will do harsh things like betraying themselves to get your cash.

4. Unconstructive criticism authors. I like criticism, it helps me and I know that people who criticize me are either jealous of what I have accomplished otherwise they would simply ignore me or they honestly want to support me. If they talk shit they get muted.

5. People who insult me are instantly muted, you should never ignore people insulting you in real life tho. If you ignore people insulting you in real life they will continue doing it and it invites others to do the same. Wolves will wolf and sheep will sheep.

I don't like people trying to fool me into giving them upvotes.

I appreciate constructive criticism, nice comments as long as it is not always nice comments and the people writing their opinions or stories related to my topics into the comments.

These guys are the real people that I like dealing with because they are honest and radiate strength.

I think it is even more important on an uncensored platform that individuals draw the line on what types of comments they will tolerate. I see it as an individual’s responsibility to protect what they cherish. When you think about it, we all do it in other areas of our lives. I’m willing to bet that most people lock their doors when they leave their home or car. At the gym, we use lockers to protect our personal possessions, so we can focus on our workout. So, if enough people start ignoring/muting spammers, eventually they will either clean up their act or move on. Just like most burglars or car thieves will opt for a house or car that’s unsecured, because they want a quick and easy profit.

Very intelligent comment EH!

It is some sort of mental hygiene as well, you kick the toxic & fake comment authors out and care about the good comments only.

Absolutely true.

Music is one of the most important parts of my life - if I'm not actively listening to it, the chances are I'm replaying something in my head. And I sing all the time, no matter what I'm doing.

I used to joke with my mom that if I was ever placed in solitary confinement I'd be fine, because I'd be listening to Bach in my head, replaying Toccata and Fugue in D minor or Brandenburg #3, depending on the mood. Or any of the hundreds of albums in my collection. There's a LOT of music I know by heart.

I was listening to "Impressions" by Lunatic Soul earlier; my favorite album of the project. I love Mariusz Duda's lyrics, and he has a remarkable grasp of English nuance for someone who is writing in his second language, but "Impressions" is almost entirely instrumental, and just a damned fine album.

He did add two alternate takes of older songs on the end, I think to make it album length instead of an EP, but I wish he hadn't; the album is stronger without them.

I love his work in Riverside as well. With both projects, his work just keeps getting better and better, much like Steven Wilson.

As for being too nice, you once chided me on Discord for always being nice, but that's just how I was raised. I was taught to be polite, and I am, unless someone gives me a reason not to be, at which point I generally ignore them.

Of course, if someone really pisses me off, then I'll either let 'em have it, or walk away and not look back. But I'm not big on getting into pissing contests with anyone, in person or online. Waste of energy.

As for sheep, I ignore them. Yeah, I get a lot of people begging for votes, but I simply move past them to the real commenters that are actually saying something worthwhile. Saves time and effort.

Real comments I appreciate and respond to, and I'm making real friends in the process, people whose insights and opinions I value. That give and take is my favorite part of Steemit, such as here and now.

Have a great day, Philip!

Classical music is something I have come to enjoy recently. It started with Wagners Opera about the Norse Gods "Ring der Nibelungen".

The thing about classical music is that it barely has rhythm, it changes a lot and it really pulls you in.

Classical music is the epitome of music creation, which is why I also call it the music of the gods. It takes a very intelligent person to appreciate classical music.

Yeah, it is pretty amazing, I agree.

My mom was a classical pianist, so I've been into classical music literally my whole life, along with jazz, rock, and several other genre.

Johann Sebastian Bach was always my favorite classical composer, but then, Baroque was and is my favorite period, along with Medieval music. I tend to like things either really simple and spare, or really ornate, though there are always exceptions to any rule.

"Ring der Nibelungen" is an amazing piece. She had a couple of different versions of it in her collection, but none complete; I'm not sure if even I would actually want to sit through all twenty plus hours in one go.

With your command of English, you may want to check out Anna Russell's explanation of Wagner's Ring cycle, which is flat out hilarious, while still being respectful of the music.

Russell was a legitimate British opera singer, who ultimately became a comedienne, and literally filled concert halls in her day. The more you know about music, the funnier she is. Her explanation of the Ring Cycle is hilarious, in large part, because she is being absolutely literal in describing what is occurring in the story, to the point of exclaiming, "I'm not making this up!"

I highly recommend it if you want a good laugh, and enjoy dry British wit.

She also did a piece on "How to Write Your Own Gilbert and Sullivan Opera," which was also a gem, though it pales in comparison with her "Ring Cycle" piece.

I mostly mute spammers, if people are overly nice to me i don't mind it... most people are only overly nice to their superior, so if people are overly nice to me let them be, ill take that as a complement

That is a badass perspective.

I see things this way:

  1. If I am looking through your posts and I like the things you’re posting and find you content either interesting, informative or entertaining then I will likely follow you and read more. If when reading your post I find you have nothing worthwhile to offer then I’m going to go on my merry way and find someone else to read.

  2. If I’m leaving a comment on your blog it’s because I genuinely liked something you have said or you have posted something that is intriguing and has sparked an interest. The reality is that it’s likely for this to happen because or number 1.

  3. If I really don’t like what you are posting and something changes I will simply unfollow and move along to someone who is going to give me what I’m looking for.

Now, I’ll give you this. The money component of this site leads to the likelyhood that people are going to be fake and be seeking upvotes. That’s just how it’s going to roll around here and if you feel someone is off then by all means they deserve to be muted. Especially if they are attacking or outright rude and negative. As a new user of Steemit my early frustration is that people will follow you just because you exist. I have around 135 followers now and I bet that less than 40 have actually read one of my posts. I’m more interested in the people that interact with me and take part in discussions. If you have people willing to do that then the upvotes will come. At this point we have no control over who follows us and I would never mute them unless it was warranted as you stated.

Personally I like your content so far as I have started following. I feel like I have learned some valuable stuff so far. Not sure the need to drop the F-bombs to make your point but I’m not sensitive and I can live with that. It shows passion until it’s used just for the sake of dropping them.

I just wanted to comment about your reference to Philip's swearing.

He swears fairly frequently so far since I started watching him. I do too so I really do not mind.

Adults know when not to swear in public. However, this is a blog and a vlog, which he is using like a journal. You can expect him to swear any time in his next vlog or the next 5.

I treat each person's blog page like their house. Their rules.

Agreed, that’s why I said it doesn’t offend me and therefore I follow because I like the content overall. If you don’t like what you are taking in then choose a different blog.

100% like it is, you either like the blog content or you simply leave.

Well said Zak.
My blog, my rules.

Very insightful comment BF.
I haven't thought about it like that, that many of my followers probably just clicked on follow without reading my stuff, but it is quite obvious.

If my 2k followers would all read my posts I would probably have to spend a week to answer all the comment.

Thanks. That’s true. I think that people will look at a post and then check to see who is following the post and then just follow everyone on that list. No idea where some of them come from.

I mostly agree with what you are saying here... Pressing the "Mute" button is a solution to avoid those people... but it seem some kind of "Hiding your head into the sand". To grow as a community, those people must learn how to use steemit platform on smart way. I mean, instead of muting them, teaching them some how would be great for the future. Because every user of steemit is part of our business. Any way thanks for this strong informative post. Hugs from Spain.

I see what you are saying, however, these people don't read anything in the first place, the knowledge is there yet they decide to not read it and spam my posts.

Helping them is a waste of time.

Right... to answer the first question of your vlog and for some reason people are ignoring that... "When was last time you truly enjoyed music?"

Well to that I answer: All the damn time, every damn day.
I have to. It is my oxygen. Not only do I listen to music while I write fantasy, I can listen to music while I write a work e-mail. I sing in the car as I drive... lately I have been "tuning in" background music in my head while I am listening to people talk or when looking at things. Like I remember the whole song/tune in my head and overlay it in my head... makes my existence awesome. Try it some time. ;)

Anyway... for the rest. I agree some people are annoying. On one hand you say "people are being disgustingly nice" and on the other "if people give "unconstructive" criticism or insult then mute.

It's a fine line to walk in that case. Yeah people are possibly earning by being nice and money encourages being nice. Kinda like when you have a job and there is an asshole customer... yeah... Smile and wave.

However, Steemit can be like a long Que of door-to-door salesmen... By the time you've seen your 50th then the moment a new one open's their fucking mouth then you just want to put a balled up newspaper in there.

That is the mute button.

Haha, I laughed at that salesman example.

Yes, indeed, it is a fine line to walk, for people that are fake here on Steemit.

Just don't be an ass kisser all the time and do not insult me.

Your comments are usually outstanding so far Zak, you truly take your time to read the article and watch the videos and then you write your good comments.

For sure. I have an ethical inclination not to make a comment until I have read/watched your post.

If you are a friend or I want to support your content, I might throw an upvote before I have gone through it all because I can tell that it is good content. The evidence is there on the blockchain. Some of your posts there is my upvote and maybe I only have time to check it out much much later. Then you might get a comment. (IF I have something to say. But I won't if I cannot take part in the conversation.)

My one friend posted a looooooong post about Norse mythology, and I gave her an upvote days before I had a chance or the energy to read all of that.

Is that friend maybe called "@tygertyger"?

Negative. It's @anikekirsten.

She had authored a book about her research of Norse Mythology. She has 5 Parts about the Mythology as well on her blog wall.

She and her husband @sigrfolkr live in South Africa and are good friends of mine. We used to all live in the same town for a while (about 4 years ago).

I wondered where the pagans are here on Steemit, sadly Sigrfolkr is inactive and Anikekirsten does not focus on Norse Mythology.

True. Sigrfolkr actually got me into Steemit and his account is a bit older than mine. But he posts very infrequently.

Between us, I am usually the guy that is the "demagogue". I will try get him into a rhythm if I can.

Anike is super busy with writing. Fiction mostly.

The search for pagans continue...

@TygerTyger and me are Pagans. I guess you are too?

Random comment looking for an upvote....

Nah im only joking man. All valid points for muting, I guess with your steem account you must get that a lot.... Mute the buggers haha.

No trash comments on this post so far.

nicely done. You are doing a good job. For me to be able to criticize you i would have to be doing a betterjob and quite frankly i am not. Keep doing what you do.

Thank you DDC.

Like every time you curse in this post I ended up laughing... that brutally honest swagger in ur post is pretty funny to me. I like your posts tho, @hopehuggs recommend you to me to learn about steemit when I just started and so I follow u cause ur shit be legit.

I have about two hundred and something bones in my body and thankfully none of them are jealous bones.

One thing tho, I find that in real life u should just ignore people with insults. They mostly just want attention and once you don't give it to them they learn their place.

Good comment & thank you KA.

Nothing wrong with constructive criticism but if you can't do that without insult, chances are that the reasons behind that criticism are not well founded, or at a minimum, not well formulated. I do see some problems with vote bots though, because if they are misused, they will turn the platform into a colony of cheerleaders and disingenuous yes men by those that come in with a lot of money. This exacerbates the issue of folks fishing/begging for upvotes, something I just ran out of after a long battle. I was getting bored with some of the "niceness" anyway and now know exactly where I stand with whom. Maybe I'll write a blog post about the experience to contribute to the general Steem school concept. Have a good one!

I agree with that, bots ruin Steemit. Sadly the creators are getting rich from it, they are now part of the game and we can either use them or not.

Don't know what to think about you yet. I'm just joined so i'm learning. I can tell you are a young person. I'm an older person almost 60. Time will tell with what i think of you. You for sure have the younger persons thoughts. I was in Germany while in the service. I think so time in the service may change your thinking.

Welcome to Steemit GC.

Woah!! My God, I actually am satisfied now because when I got notified that I got muted, I was surprised.. I kept on asking myself if i did anything wrong but thanks to this post of yours.. At least now I knw what happened.. Everyone has his/her own choices in life and its real fact that no one can meet up to everyone's choices. So there is no problem. I respect people who are real but i must make a confession: if its about what happened back there on ur post, i meant it I couldnt pass that comment of you saying those good words about him @humanearl by, I just had to say what I also have experienced from knowing him.. I even got to know about you from him after saying a few things about you to me in his comment section. And that was the same day I followed ur account, which he told me to. I was told I was gonna learn alot from following up your updates by humanearl and I wanna achieve that so I wont let the muting disturb my mind because Im on steemit to learn and Im just following what my seniors tell me to do, so that I can also impact in others one day. This is my plan except you ban me from visiting your blog and commenting on your posts.

Thankyou!

Stay away from dealing with sheep. In real life and in the virtual world.
