"One of my major goals this year is to be happy and remain happy. How can i accomplish that it?" I get asked this a lot.
Everybody craves after happiness, but who really understands it? The answer is not many people. According to the WHO, (world health organization) over 300 million people worldwide of all ages suffer from depression or melancholy.
Through this content, I'm going to split a few key gems from my research, that will change the way you look at happiness.
Ready to start?
Stop pursuing happiness
It sounds counter-intuitive or nonsensical. We think the real happiness connotes being happy all the time, every single second of every single day. The un-pleasant truth is, there's no such thing as "permanent" happiness. As a matter of fact, you can't feel "happy" unless you have something to equate it to. When are your happiest celebrations? Most times it's after you've overcome something. All the same, by vigorously avoiding things you feel pain or negative about - you are striping yourself off future happy experiences.
The first action to accomplish happiness is to adopt the other side of the coin: embrace the times of sadness, depression, setbacks, times of challenge and negativity. Direct them into experiences that give your life meaning and growth and strength.
To remain happy, don't make happy your goal.
Turn suffering into your spark
As human beings, we experience our world through feelings, be it emotional or physical.
But your mental viewpoint frames how you translate an experience, and can either minimize or amplify the amount of pleasure or suffering that you actually feel.
You encounter unnecessary suffering when you focus on one side of the coin - the negative side. All the same suffering can be positive - if it is helping you work towards something important. Think of it as a raw material.
When you see things things this way, "suffering" will become your fuel.
The next step to take, is to make sure that your "suffering" is always constructive.
Start pursuing the right things
A quite number of us crave for possessions (such as car, a gadgets, house or even an expensive shoe) or experiences (such as travel) in order to bring about feelings of happiness.
These things perhaps maybe worthy pursuits, but generally they are one-off and short lived. And once it's gone, you need search for the next thing, and then the next thing after that, (quite funny).
Depending on these for short time of "happiness" can only get you so far. Do you want to break out of this hoop? Here's the secret that has completely transformed most successful individuals:
Stop pursuing better things. Instead, pursue better time
We put in tremendous effort into improving the quality and virtue of the things we have (good house, good car, good phone, etc.) In comparison, how much exertion do you spend on improving the quality of your time?
Fulcrum your value system. Presume what will happen if you decided to earn quality time the way you earn money. Changing your understanding about happiness is important for truly living a happy life.
I hope today's bite-sized knowledge has helped you to make some positive changes!.
