I often write about the animals we find in and around our classroom at our campus in the village. Today's guests gave my teaching assistant a huge fright as she opened up her drawer to grab her stapler.

Now don't be alarmed! My classroom is clean. We have gorgeous large open-aired classrooms. A teachers dream with all the space and resources you could ever dream of. Beautiful wooden shutters from ceiling to floor for every wall and it outlooks the spectacular rice fields. BUT, being rural Cambodia there is wildlife all around us. They just must enjoy checking out what we do in Pre-Kindergarten too, because we always have new visitors.

We left the babies in the drawer so mum could find them. I know its a rat but these are rice field rats and unlike the city rats that eat the rubbish, these guys eat in the fields. Some locals consume rats regularly but only the rats from the villages because they are deemed "clean". (for my regular followers who know my kids are known to try crazy Cambodian street delicacies, dogs, cats, and rats are where I will draw the line for them lol.

I was thankful for these guys being born the draw. Even though I'm not a fan of the rat, the circle of life is a pretty magical thing. We had recently been discussing chicken lifecycles in science at the start of the quarter and the tied in nicely. As I left I checked everyone was ok and mum was even inside feeding them but quickly jumped out and ran once she spotted me.
