I’ve seen this challenge a few times around Steemit lately but wasn’t really planning to do a post. However, I was tagged by two of my favorite friends on here: @simon62 and @wanderlass and after hearing the awesome stories behind their names I figured I had best put a post of my own together.
SO, if case you haven’t heard:
The rules for this challenge:
- Tell us in a post how you chose the current Steemit username you have. The story behind it.
- Tell us your real name!
- If you could change your current username, which name would you choose and why? If you have a * possible usernames list, mention it!

The Story Behind the Name
I first coined this username quite a few years ago on this writer’s website I found to share my poetry on - writerscafe.org. I wanted a name that said I was a poet but my actual name is not poetic whatsoever, plus I wanted to keep some form of anonymity so I went with my middle name and added speaks in there because my poetry gave me a voice I didn’t have in the real world at the time.
When I found Steemit it only seemed natural to keep going with a.marie.speaks - even though the platform wouldn’t allow the periods for separation - the way I have on my other usernames but I just squished it all together and thought people could figure it out on their own.
The Real Name
Well here goes the mystery behind the veil - my middle name is Marie, after my grandmother whose middle name was the same. The a stands for Allyson - and awful. LOL
I never liked my given name. I always went by Ally andn even that I'm not a fan of.. . Only about 3 people in the whole world called me Allyson.. most friends and family call me Ally.. Even my husband knows I don’t like my name - he just calls me sweetheart. If he ever calls me Ally I know he’s mad with me lol so between sweetheart and Mom I don't hear my real name much anymore ;-)
A rose by any other name??
If I was to change my username, I would probably switch over to my other commonly used username: Third Eye Navigation - I have a wordpress blog, redbubble, and email address all with this name already so the transition would be easy ;-)
I like that name because I think it sums up my personality and perspective all in one but I believe I didn’t think of it until after I had started on Steemit.

Great post @amariespeaks. One of my besties calls herself Ali, but not from similar to your first. Her friends at her work call her Alicat as in 'alley-cat' but her real name is Aliantha, most unusual. I love your next choice - Third Eye Navigation. Navigation is my hobby and sailing when younger led to Stars which led to Astrology and then to Tarot, which led to Meditation and Chakras and to Tisra Til (Third Eye). Which, like you say leads back to navigation, but of a different sort 😃. Come to that, I've only just now noticed the sunglasses in your sketched poster. 👌

I love that round about circle cycle of mental evolution you've outlined ;-) and yes those sunglasses were so much fun.. I drew a few pairs in different ways.. I got the inspiration from the artist Prince.. he had a pair that were circles but there was a third added on and I thought that was so cool - so I made a few of my own sketches. Well, everyone has a choice of which name he or she wants to be called. I love ur perseverance in relation to the name u detest and the one u want to be addressed. It is a motivation to me to hold on to whatever I want to be despite the challenges i may face. Thank u for motivating me with ur scintilating write up.

Your name is awesome and I was wondering if it had political expressions since to voice out is usually associated with politics.

It evolved wonderfully into a political expression which is perfect because it allows me to write about whatever I feel like speaking about lol which as you know, is all over the place so I'm glad I didn't box myself in with a more defined username

Nice to know how you came about your username, Allyson is a very beautifulll name, Amariespeaks also depicts your beautiful poetic nature. i like it. Third eye navigation is cool too but i like Amariespeaks more.

I'm also reminded of another Ally who loves photography and she has perfected that craft. I genuinely believe Allyson is another term for artistry.
I did not quite like my real name (which I will not reveal lol) before and I was only given one name. I wanted two names when I was younger but when I realized the meaning behind my name I am happy with it.

Well, I like the username, because it does sound like it suits you very well. I also like your first name and Ally or Allie as a diminutive. I know two girls named Allison, so they go by Alli and they are very nice people. Very mature, responsible and fun loving.
But hey, if you don't like your first name, Marie is a very awesome second name to go by, too.
