macro flower by dreamstream

Getting inspired for this week's macro challenge. I spotted this little purple flower in the garden and got up close using 70-200mm lens + extension tubes.

This is my second submission to this week's Nature Macro II Steemit Photo Challenge hosted by @jamtaylor with guest judge @digitalis.

Canon EOS 40D 1/1250 second F/2.8 ISO 800 200 mm

nice shoot,if you could adjust the focus to point focus and only focus on the center of the flower,that would lighten up the whole image.Upvoted!

Thanks for the helpful feedback and the upvote !

I was shooting manual on this one as the extension tubes don't work so great with auto-focus.
So basically moving my head forward and back to try to lock in on a focal point.

I guess a tripod and slide would be the best option but I was just messing around and didn't bother :)

Really great shot! I love the yellow of the pollen against the blue of the center of the flower. With such a narrow focal plane it can be difficult to pick the right spot on a subject like this and even harder to nail the spot you picked using a telephoto lens.

Did you correct for excessive vignetting in the corners or do your extension tubes not produce much vignette?

Cheers,
@kellyjanderson

Thanks Kelly!

With this combo of tubes (Kenko DG Extension Tubes stacked 12/20/36mm), lens & camera, I don't recall vignetting being much of a problem, at least not noticeably to my eye.

As an aside, I don't use this as my primary camera much anymore and have not played around in macro in some time, so it was good to have an excuse to get creative.

I see you've posted some nice mushroom and flower pics as well. What is your macro setup?

Cool, I have a set of extensions around here somewhere but I got terrible vignetting with them so I have only used them once.

I first starting doing macro with my D5100 and a Nikor 55-300 Telephoto. Once I decided that I really like macro photography I bought the Nikor 40mm f2.8 micro lens. So the majority of my macro photography is done with the micro lens today.

Cheers,
@kellyjanderson

I had my eye on the 100mm 2.8 type of macro lens sometime back but never got around to buying a dedicated macro lens as I don't shoot macro all that often. Would be interesting to compare magnification and quality of shots between the different systems.

soooo beautifull <3 canon and you rocked :)
