ABANDONED HOTEL – XAI XAI (MOZAMBIQUE)steemCreated with Sketch.

On a recent trip to Mozambique we stumbled across this abandoned hotel on Xai Xai beach.

It was apparently built by the Portuguese, but was abandoned due to civil war. Nobody had claimed rights to it since and anyone can come and go as they please.

Many people say that this hotel is haunted and when you enter it you can understand why they say so...

There was an eerie silence all over the place...
20160807_162156.jpg

My hubby posed at the bar for a pic, I could just imagine sitting there having a cold one, music playing in the background...
20160807_162705.jpg

...maybe some dancing.....

Furniture was stored for "later"...
20160807_162118.jpg

...perhaps after the war "someone" would restore it to it's former glory...
20160807_162402.jpg

...but I guess that "after the war" time has not come yet...
20160807_161308.jpg

...and the "someone" had forgotten all about this former beauty.

We left our mark too, as many before us did.

And just before sunset...
20160807_164440.jpg

...we decided to find our way back home...
20160807_164208.jpg

...just in case...
20160807_161521.jpg

...there was any truth...
20160807_160906.jpg

...to the "haunted hotel" legend.

If you are wondering what this post has to do with food, well then you have to try the pao (Portuguese for bread) in Mozambique :)

Xai Xai is now on my to-do list again.
We were gonna head up there in 2007 but our rental car broke down in Maputo so we had to cut the trip short...

My pleasure :-) thank you for reading it.
You will definitely not be sorry, Xai Xai is a beauty with so many hidden treasures to see!

Interesting building ... wonder why it would have been abandoned though

It was abandoned when the civil war broke out.

There is not enough money in the world :)

Spooky!!
If walls could talk..
You could almost hear the chatter of the tourists..LOL
Nice Pics....................

I think those walls would have a LOT to say. First there was fun and laughter and then suddenly a devastating war.

Thanks for the compliment, the photos were taken with my Samsung cellphone.

great photography skill you have here

Thanks for the compliment, the photos were taken with my Samsung cellphone. I think if you have a decent camera you can shoot some breathtaking pictures there!

Feel sad for people leave places like these :(

You are right. All that time, money and energy spent to build this beautiful hotel and all for nothing...it is going to waste...
Thank you for reading my post :)
