Woman - Is she a 'piece'? Day 20 of the Steemit school 100 day poetry challenge

There was an era once
when women were considered divine
wooed and thought of as objects of poetry
men would respect and try to win love and respect

Tales were told of love
Elizabeth, Fanny, Emma, and Jane
Society was more respectable
and families remained

The woman was not considered a 'piece'
men stood up to give her a place
manners were most important
and the women were full of grace

As times change and item dancers take charge
women are thought of as building blocks?

( A random thought which inspired this. I was watching old classic collections like Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice and it struck me how the society has changed over the centuries. When we go outside, I have heard rude comments from roadside romeos who often look at girls and refer to her as a 'good piece'- It is highly disgusting but not many women react for fear of the reaction.)

True love can be earned only if respect is present in a relationship

I write poems to express myself. I started writing at the age of twelve or so and some of my poems were published in magazines for children, a time when print still ruled the world. The internet and the blogging world has helped me write poems. Most of it was as I wrote earlier, to express myself and my thoughts. I have also been a ghostwriter.
Steemit has helped me write with freedom and also earned me very good friends who encourage me to write. I hope my readers will support me and also join in this contest. I am not a student of literature and so I do not consider myself an expert in poetry. It is the judge who will decide.
