‘Titanic Of The Alps’ Shipwreck From 1933 To Be Raised From The Bottom Of Lake Constance
Plans are underway to raise the steamship Säntis, known as the "Titanic of the Alps," which sank in Lake Constance in 1933. The ship was in service for 40 years before encountering financial difficulties and being sunk in the middle of the lake. The well-preserved shipwreck was rediscovered in 2013 and is currently at a depth of 690 feet. The Ship Salvage Association plans to use lifting bags to bring the ship to the surface, but the process is urgent due to invasive mussels attaching themselves to the ship. Once raised, the ship will be repaired and displayed in a museum in Switzerland.
