Anything pimped up is obviously better than the original version otherwise it wouldn’t be hyped as the pimp. Ok just to clarify, it’s not necessarily a good thing to be a pimp- in the food world I mean (not that it’s the best career choice in the non-food world), but it usually is because it just implies bigger and better. However, it is also the norm that these pimped up options come well equipped with the extras to induce a cardiac arrest on the spot.

This dragon shake is no exception…but only when it’s pimped up. Without the pimping, it’s a mixture of the most simple of Mother Nature’s goods to make a refreshing summer beverage, but if you’re feeling naughty and indulgent, it’s time to bring on the pimping.

Dragon fruit – such a crazy looking thing. In china, the dragon is the symbol of strength, glory and even considered a national depiction of the country. In the fruit form, the dragon fruit looks just as strong and powerful as the creature. Resilient, tough exterior, prickly skin, vibrant pink in colour (though a white variant is also available) and it truly stands out from the rest of it’s neighbours at the grocery store.

It sounds so amazing, and I know you really want a taste. BUT, I must admit, it is more pleasing to the eye than to the tongue. If I had to describe it’s flavour, all I could tell you is that it’s just pleasantly sweet. No distinct taste at all in fact. Yet, mix it with some lime and some added extras, and Bob’s your uncle! A real transformation occurs, one hundred times better than the naked fruit itself- I don’t feel guilty at all topping it off with cream and candies galore!

Serving size:
Serves 2

Ingredients:
• 1 large dragon fruit
• 100g silken tofu
• 2tbsp icing sugar
• 1tsp vanilla extract
• Juice of 1 lime
• Candy etc of your choice (optional)

Method:

  1. In a blender, blitz the flesh of the dragon fruit and the lime juice and pour into glasses.
  2. Blend the tofu and icing sugar in a food processor until creamy and smooth.
  3. Spoon on top of the shake.
  4. Add all of the sides as desired and serve.

Savour the day with your pimped up beverage, ready to face the world with the strength of a dragon.

They grow very well here in Arizona, I will have to plant some sometime. They have them at the supermarket right now, for like 5 dollars a piece! haha

OMG that's so expensive, you should definitely grow some and sell them at half the price! Had no idea they grow in Arizona, sounds like a cool place to visit, must be hot there right?! Haha, yes, everything pimped is awesome! Thanks @mrchef111 :-)
