What I want for Christmas: 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS- DAY 8

in steemleo •  5 years ago  (edited)

This is my 8th article in the #twelvedaysofchristmas series initiated by @silverd510 as a Santa’s wish list for stackers.

Like him and those who want to join in on this fun article series, I shall be posting a bar, round or coin a day [for 12 days] that I would love to get as a gift.

The 12 Days of Christmas- DAY 8 and the eight precious metals piece on my list, is the US Gold Coin pictured below!

Coin Highlights: Issued by the U.S. Mint. 90% pure gold, .0483 oz actual Gold weight, 13mm in diameter.

About this coin...

The gold dollar or gold one-dollar piece is a gold coin that was struck as a regular issue by the United States Bureau of the Mint from 1849 to 1889. The coin had three types over its lifetime, all designed by Mint Chief Engraver James B. Longacre. The Type 1 issue has the smallest diameter of any United States coin minted to date.

A gold dollar coin had been proposed several times in the 1830s and 1840s, but was not initially adopted. Congress was finally galvanized into action by the increased supply of bullion caused by the California gold rush, and in 1849 authorized a gold dollar. In its early years, silver coins were being hoarded or exported, and the gold dollar found a ready place in commerce. Silver again circulated after Congress in 1853 required that new coins of that metal be made lighter, and the gold dollar became a rarity in commerce even before federal coins vanished from circulation because of the economic disruption caused by the American Civil War.

Gold did not again circulate in most of the nation until 1879; once it did, the gold dollar did not regain its place. In its final years, it was struck in small numbers, causing speculation by hoarders. It was also in demand to be mounted in jewelry. The regular issue gold dollar was last struck in 1889; the following year, Congress ended the series.

I almost get the feeling this is the same gal on the Indian head, change of head gear. Still a beauty though! 🌺 💖 🌸 💝 🌼

Both the Indian Head Gold and the Liberty Head Gold were designed by the same US Mint Chief Engraver, sis! You noticed the similarity! This one is called Type 1 and the first one I showed before is Type 2 US $1 Gold coin. Have a relaxing evening, sis @kerrislravenhill, take care🥰🌺🤙 and a million Hugs and Kisses 🤗💕💋! !tip

Left the ships but still #allamerican! 😍 🇺🇸

I think @silversaver888 left the ship thing to me for now. Yo ho ho, see you on #piratesunday! Castin off.

Ye got it right, pirate sis! Looking forward to your article on #piratesunday. 🥰🌺🤙

You can guess that I really love American coins... I think that is why the base of my stack is what it is. The US Mint does not produce many coins like other mints do. Other than minting circulating coins, the highlights of a year for the US Mint are the Year silver Proof sets, ASE, AGE, AGB, the commemorative coin of that year, and any on-going series they may have. The US Mint seldom do animals or anything of that sort just to market coins. So these ones on my (forever) Christmas List are truly special (for me personally)... unfortunately, my goal and stacking strategy tells me that I cannot afford them, hehehe.

The only American gold coin that I have is a circulated Liberty Head Double Eagle. I bought it many years ago and I remember that I paid a little above spot price, but I don"t remember when and how much it cost me...

They are the tiniest gold coin from the US Mint! Great history around those coins, @ronaldoavelino! I guessed that you may have them in your collection! Kudos, my friend.
Take care 🥰🌺🤙 !tip
