Wow. Steem is just the most supportive community out there. The response has been nothing short of incredible and we are blown away by everything that’s happened…. and it’s only been 24 hours!!
I (@khaleelkazi) like the idea of AARs (after action reports). I like to breakdown what happened and look for ways to improve going forward while also taking a little moment to celebrate the good that's happened.
So in case you’ve missed it, here’s what has happened in just 24 hours since launching our Steemleo tribe:
- 1 Million LEO Tokens Staked!! (over 50% of the current distribution, excluding the 2M LEO Sell Wall)
- The LEO token is #2 on the Steem Engine DEX for highest volume currently @ 9,131 STEEM / $3,225.20 for the first 24 hours
- The LEOMM (Mega Miner) is #4 on the Steem Engine DEX for highest volume currently @ 6,813 STEEM / $2,406.43 for the first 24 hours
- Tube.Steemleo.com is gaining some traction and we’ve seen a few Steem celeb video creators posting there
- The discord channel launched 12 hours ago and has almost 100 users already
The Good:
The good is all of the awesome stuff above and more. We’ve got thousands of posts on Steemleo and they are continuing to roll in!
The LEO token is seeing amazing levels of activity and is 2nd on Steem Engine for most traded token in the last 24 hours. The LEOMM mining token is performing well.
Despite a few hiccups, users are very happy that we airdropped to PAL holders (over 1.8M LEO has been airdropped so far). It adds an incentive for stakeholders of PAL and hopefully sets a little standard for other tribes to come.
The community has stepped up in big ways to help us get the ball rolling. People are curating like crazy and the engagement is through the roof!
The Bad:
The main bad point is that we had some bugs with the airdrop and missed some PAL stakeholders. We’re manually making our way through the list of people who have been skipped over (it’s mostly people who are either delegating PAL or unstaking PAL).

Other than a few bugs with the airdrop, people are misusing the steemleo tag for content other than investing.
We’re trying to curate as much of the steemleo content as possible, especially by upvoting with the @steem.leo account to get some extra STEEM rewards to all you amazing investing creators out there. We’re building out the curation team at the moment. The ultimate goal is to be able to manually curate every piece of content on Steemleo, but that may take time to get up and running.

We see a lot of room for improvement and we’ll be working on these things right now:
- Fixing the airdrop glitch
- Adding better content moderation/curation so we can review more Steemleo posts
- Tag moderation for people who are abusing the steemleo tag and not posting about investing

1). Discord & Weekly Podcast
We’re currently organizing the discord as we also help the final airdrops go out to those who were missed in the first 2. New channels will be added, etc.
We’re going to start the weekly podcast soon. This is an idea that I’ve told Steemit, Inc. to do for the past several months but instead of waiting around, we’ll launch it right through Steemleo and use it as the backbone to growing this community.
The idea is simple —> host a weekly podcast, talk about Steem, investing, etc.. Record the podcast and upload to every major podcast outlet (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, DTube, Facebook, Twitter, Stitcher). Come up with a good landing page to send listeners to where they can learn/sign up to Steemleo (& steem).
Chop up the same podcast into smaller bits and distribute as well on places like Twitter, Instagram, etc. Consider using targeted Facebook Ads/IG ads to expand the reach of the podcast.
The goal of this is to onboard new users to Steem (and to Steemleo). I like to call this “the only real marketing strategy you ever really need”… Because it literally is just that. I worked in social media marketing before and trust me, If you do this podcast right and distribute it in the ways I’ve listed, your reach would be limitless and as the podcast gained traction, your onboarding would go through the roof!
2). Tag Moderation
Many have pointed out that tag abuse is rampant on Steemleo. It’s not that people are spamming (although, there is some of that), it’s more so that people are posting under the steemleo tag when their content is entirely unrelated to investing. Remember what we said in the announcement — we don’t want to see pics of your cat! (unless it’s in the middle of performing a trade, of course).
In a few hours we’ll have a discord channel set up for tag abuse reporting. We’ll have an accompanying account that will flag rewards on posts that are unrelated to investing and therefore, misusing the steemleo tag. Note that this account will ONLY have LEO powered up and thus, will not take away other rewards such as PAL or STEEM/SBD.
3). LeoPeak
LeoPeak is in the works and we’ll be live on the Steempeak tribes page very soon.
4). Learn Leo Series
We’ll start a series in a post later today titled “Learn Leo” where we’ll teach the basics of the Steemleo platform and how it all works. Examples of what will be talked about include:
- How Proof of Brain works on Steemleo
- How content is rewarded
- Why Stake LEO?
- How the virtual mining tokens, LEOMM and LEOM work
- etc..
Limitless Possibilities From Here
This is just the beginning of Steemleo as a platform. What we’re realizing is that this ship is moving way faster than expected and we’re not just hitting the ground running, we’re flying past any and all expectations.
We’re working on finishing the airdrop and then our focus will move more and more toward outward marketing and onboarding users from outside of Steem. I do like the idea that you, (steemleo), will be doing like palnet and moderating the content. As much as I would love to share my *cat photo's" there are other places to do that, like steemit, and PALnet. If I go buy a magazine that is about Financial Investing, do I really want to see op-ed pieces about toe bunions? People will learn, (like myself) what is appropriate content, based upon what you, (steemleo), let slide by.

This is awesome stuff I got to pick up a good bit of LEO for a deep discount when for some reason people sold them off! CRAZY!!!! Now I am starting to get into your miners.
I really look forward to what else you bring to this unique community as it continues to grow with smart investment people from around the world. This is one of the coolest things about crypto we are all trading the same thing instead of stocks and restricted access to those stocks.
Tagging does seem to be an issue and perhaps there should be moderation accounts to flag those with wrong tagging ? Not sure the best coarse of action to take there yet.

I have a feeling that SteemLeo can be a great community for investors but I was really disappointed with tag abuse. It's sad that people just want to get as many different tokens even when their content has nothing to do with this community. I am glad that you will do something to prevent this abuse.

I have hope in communities and would buy some tokens but the tag abuse is rampant and the post quality is terrible.
The airdropped was botched, you should have given tokens to people who were posting with the money, investing or finance tags. Not people who just had palnet staked.
This will likely be a community of beggars and speculation unless there is strong policing. Let's hope those incoming free downvotes are put to good use.

We'll be fighting tag abuse and I believe that every community on Steem that arises is going to have to do this as well. It's a simple fact that people will run rampant until you reign it all in and make it clear where the borders are.
I get the concerns with the airdrop, but the tokens will flow into the hands of those who are interested in investing. Of that, I have no concern. it will simply happen over time, especially as those who have no interest in investing find that their stake has little meaning here if they don't manually curate investing content/create investing content as we'll flag the rewards away.
Also remember that less than 2M tokens were airdropped to PAL users. We still have 3M in bounties to give away in the coming years SPECIFICALLY to users who are interested in investing and who are involved with investing communities ++outside of Steem++. On top of that, the inflation is set high so as to distribute to the most active users.

Thanks for your reply, I understand this more. I tried posting in money and investing but realized it's mostly TA junk and pumps on Steem. There are a some day traders and knowledgeable investors who post quality but some I mean less than 10. Hope Steemleo changes that.
FYI @khaleelkazi, I'm an accredited investor and am a little disappointed by this rollout and airdrop to non-pros and random people. Even if it's a small % of overall tokens, it's poor due dilligence. I reckon less than 1% of LEO buyers and stakers are accredited and that's not something to be proud of for an investment community. Better change that.

Anytime. Yes I agree that there is a lot of junk out there and posts clearly designed to soak up rewards.
There are quite a few accredited investors out there, however, being an accredited investor is not a qualification to talking about investing, in my opinion. If you love investing but say, live in a third world country, should you be excluded from the conversation and accumulation of tokens?
Same can be said for a lot of other groups who also love investing but haven’t reached that coveted accredited investor title. I think one of the key sticking points of crypto is to get away from the barriers to entry such as accreditation. Its very possible that it’s less than 1%, but that’s just the way it falls for now. I don’t see how having more acc. Investors would have a direct impact on the content and discussion.
I just believe that the people who love investing will be encouraged to stake up and stick around while everyone else will be lead away to other communities. All I care about is passion for the game, not how much money people have in the bank. Hope that brings a little extra clarity. Again, I appreciate the feedback!

I'm not saying someone should necessarily be discluded because they don't meet the US definition of an accredited investor, unless they are American then they shouldn't be participating in ICOs.
What I mean is a whitelist or some sort of rating would be good. For example if you are a financial professional a special tag can be used. If you have a track record, a similar thing. Else I fear this will become a circle jerk of useless nonsense like some of the financial sub-reddits.
For now, I'll get my investment info from established sites on the web that don't allow just anyone to post. It will take some time for the dust to settle here if it ever does. For now it's mostly tag abuse.

Thank you for the generous airdrop! Made a healthy investment into PAL and feel richly rewarded. I don't post a ton of investment content (the only advice I'd give is to mostly do exactly the opposite of what I do) ... but I am a voracious consumer of crypto related analysis, speculation and wild ridiculous recommendations.
