I found out there is a trick to bending this 1&3/8" fencing toprail. That block of wood is key, you have to hold the top roller straight in comparison to the bottom 2 rollers.

I need to do this very thing.. Is that your bender?

yeah man, you def can use it, like I said there is a bit of a trick to it.

sir makinstuff! yeah the trick to bending steel tubing is to let a machine do it for you. lol. very interesting but how are the fish doin and is the tube for another project you'll be showing?

Yes the tube is for creating greenhouse ribs and I will be showing that. The fish aren't gulping air now, but my ph levels are still high. They still aren't eating, I'm doing some water changes with off gassing the chlorine from city water by filling up containers and letting them sit overnight. I will do a 30gallon water change and add some vinegar to help adjust the ph closer to 7 so the system can level out.

wow makinstuff how do you know all this? well, do you check the ph balance like in a pool? except you don't use chlorine right?

Hey @janton its not me I'm relaying what I'm learning from @robbieolson I'm apprenticing from his knowledge about these systems. I've been talking back and forth to get guidance and have been reading and watching videos like crazy as well. I just found Brooklyn St. Michael and his School of Aquaponics YouTube channel that is a huge resource. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFUk9FLx4lb-WhfoY-STxDQ It's a completely fascinating growing technique and is the future of farming in my humble opinion. We will be growing on large scales indoors with these symbiotic ecosystems that will generate massive abundance.

howdy there makinstuff! whos the "we" who will be running these big operations, commercial growers? well you may be learning from someone else but you still have to set it all up.

I thought this system was supposed to be for an emergency, sustainable food supply but you gotta keep the fish fed which I don't know what they need so that would be hard and then you wouldn't have power if the grid was down. so I guess this isn't a survival situation type of system.

Good points @janton It is in one way...... the tilapia are omnivores and will eat black soilder fly larvae and duckweed. There are other things they can eat as well such as spirulina algae that can grow anywhere in the world. If you had a loss of power, yes this system would be a bit difficult to keep going. That's why I'm creating the Surthrival Trailer to house a mini micro-grid along with a food system like this. Yes it would be more work to get to a point of completely closed loop, but it is possible to grow all your inputs locally to provide feed for the fish.

sir makinstuff! a "mini micro-grid" lol wow and a solar powered one right?
now that's what it would take if the grid goes down, that's brilliant and great project to post about!

thank you @janton

Superb, interesting

thank you @sachintyagi
