Kid Mantras Engraved In My Soul
My good friends Kevin and Marilyn have a beautiful and enlightened son called Liam. He is the cutest little 8 year old going on 40 that I have ever met and he has this gift of coming up with the MOST RANDOM yet Seriously Crazy mantras out of nowhere.
I remember sitting next to him in the car one day and he turns to me and says
I SET THE STANDARDS TO WHICH I LIVE BY.
Now Really? That's just profound for an 8 year old! And as I sat back in my seat, my mind started winding it's way around that mantra. All my life, I have tried to live up to standards set by the people around me like my parents and my older brother. But of course, because they set those standards, I have often felt that I just never managed to reach them. No matter how hard I tried, whatever I finally did was never really up to their standards.
So Thanks Liam! Ever since that day I have engraved deep in my soul that only I and I alone will SET the standards to which I LIVE BY. With this idea in place I started doing things according to those standards and achieving my goals day by day.
The second time he gave me something profound was when he turned around and asked me.
DO YOU KNOW THE WAY?
Then he scampered off before I could answer him. Cheeky monkey! I sat down and again my mind started wrapping itself around that mantra.
"Do I Know The Way?" That was probably the first question in the world because we all needed to figure out THE WAY.
How would history ever have gotten her story if we as members of the human race chose NOT to be curious and look for the answers in life. We needed to find THE WAY to build homes, sew clothes, hunt and grow food, find shelter, communicate with other members of the community. That in essence was the beginning of all things. It started when man asked himself if HE KNEW THE WAY?
If God had any friends around him when he created us, they probably asked him the same question. " God, Do you know the way to make life?"
So from the mouths of babes often comes forth the truth and in abundance! Thank you Liam for your wisdom in your innocence. May you continue to grace us all with your thoughts and ideas because they are beautiful to understand.
