Towards the end of 2017, the price of cryptocurrencies starting with Bitcoin, started rising against the USD. BTC almost got to the $20,000 level as an Influx of institutional money and buying frenzy supported the hike. Shortly after, everyone started cashing out their gains in January 2018 leading to a market wide sell-off that eventually dragged the price of Bitcoin to $10,000. As time passed, the price of Bitcoin slowly lost its gains until the significant dump in November. This period has been named the cryptocurrency winter. Following the Bitcoin Cash hard fork war, the price of Bitcoin feel from the $6,000 to the $3,000 were it remained for a few months.
