Mixed opinion on this so far, but potentially a solid method of reducing card supply and thus increasing value?
Earlier today, I read a post by @jrvacation suggesting to burn unused and potentially 'worthless' cards. I was unsure at first if this would come across and good or bad promotion for @steemmonsters, but after speaking to the SM boss (who by the way is working his backside off to boost the value of SM cards) and checking he was game for this idea to be pushed, here I am to set some cards alight 🔥
When I read the post linked above, I immediately thought 'Rusty Android'. As far as I can remember, I've not used this card once and believe the Mana rating to be at least a point too high. And well, it just looks a bit turd too.
'Sadly', I didn't have 100 of these to send to @null, and so I went and bought a load from https://peakmonsters.com. It seems you can both buy and sell the Rusty Android for a cent - he's not very popular at all!

Well yes, you could well get an up-vote from @jrvacation (and potentially @yabapmatt) for carrying out this task of reducing supply of a particular card - you'll need to burn $1 worth, and prove it as above.
In a weird twist, also bought and leveled up a bunch of Rusty Androids, just in case they all catch fire and become a bit of a collectors piece. Something I hope all the cards will become in time.

I have actually used him, he does have magic reflect, and 3 for attack then 4 when he gets to level 8, one of only 2 neutrals with magic reflect. I am building a neutral team to be used with Daria, and only one of the other splinter cards. I have no chance of ever leveling any of the colored splinters up, but neutral, that one still has a chance.

Coincidentally I got a gold Rusty Android as well today! Never sold a gold before :D Burning is potentially a great idea, although I now decided to get all cards from the market and maybe level them up to max - I don't have any maxed out cards yet, so that could be a great way to get some excitement back when I get a Rusty in my daily rewards :')

How strange! Did you check the value? A meager 10 cents, for a gold!
I only have a few maxed out cards, I decided early to max Selenia Sky (cause I lucked out with a gold Chromatic Dragon), but as she's no good for the daily splinter quests, I've not been using this summoner so much.
A few of my water cards are maxed out, and some of the gold fire splinters are getting there. I was hoping orignally that golds would do something more than normals, and so spent a fair bit on them. I can't see any benefit to leveling golds up over normals as yet - hopefully they will be worth a nice sum in future though.
I can't imagine ever being excited about receiving a Rusty Android in my daily rewards, unless he's gold and there's 10 of them :D

Yeah, I could max out some cards, but I upgraded my summoners all to level 4 and am leveling up accordingly. Not prepared to go higher since I've invested all the FIAT I was willing to spend on it :-) This has gotten me to a Diamond League in past seasons, so not bad :D It's getting harder though :') (And I might just lose a bit of excitement, so waiting for new gameplays to come up and see what smart moves to make then.)
Anyway, it's keeping us busy, that's a good thing :D I'm hoping this burning thing gets big and I'll be the only one stubbornly leveling up my Rusty which then will be super rare :') #nohope

I think it is also an interesting approach but can risk that the developers change aspects and abilities to make it more valuable over time as they have done in the past. I am sure they are actively watching the market and have a list of changes they may need to make. One thought would be to provide SM tokens (which I believe already exist on Steem Engine) for burnings cards like this.

When I last played a game like this, burning multiples would be done for power up, but singles never. The idea was to collect everything. Also developers would balance the game amd u never know wlespecially with rares.

In my opinion before reducing the cards supply maybe changing the mana, attack, speed and life would be better, making the card more playable, maybe some people would actually use them... but oh well, I'm still starting out on steemmonsters, I need a better summoner or I won't increase in leagues...

Yeah that is an option, I don't really mind which approach is taken but I do like the idea of reducing supply to increase demand. Someone burning a bunch of SBD right now would go down a treat :)
And yeah, summoner level-ups are pretty key - you are knackered without at least one decent caller!

I also like the burning idea, but we need to think of long-term, what will happen in the next bubble when we get thousands of new users? if we reduce the supply too much the game might become too expensive for them, don't really know how they will implement a new card system, will they continue to create booster? These are all the thing that can influence the economy of the game in the future and are of concern, because imo Stemmonsters is my number one dapp game, right alongside with EOSknights (don't enjoy drugwars very much because of the pay2win system and pyramid system, but let's see where it goes, i play it for fun)
