No "starter set" purchase is required if you want to own and collect your own Steem Monster cards.
I feel like there may be a misconception in the Steem community about the barrier of entry into the collection of Steem Monster cards.
It is true that if you want to play (battle) to win reward cards and tournaments, you have to buy the $10 starter set.
But if you just want to buy and hold cards from the market, or better yet, win cards from other steemians...
Anyone can do this, with no prerequisite... just sign into steemmonsters website with your Steem account (link in the banner below)
Although cards like the one below are a long way away for many of us...
There are a lot of people like myself who are running regular giveaways... Many of these giveaways, like the one I am doing, only require you to comment on the post to be eligible to win.
This week (at the time I am writing this) I am even giving away a Gold Foil collectable card.

If this seems like something that you would enjoy doing... Just click on the banner below (which takes you to the Steem Monsters webpage, and sign in with your Steem account. Doing this will let you view your cards once they have been sent to you. They will just show up like this...
Or you can also buy them off of the market, but that is a whole different subject...
