Splinterlands (aka Steem Monsters) is a Trading Card Game dapp built on the Steem blockchain. It also has some integration with the Tron blockchain. The cards themselves are digital assets that can be held in your crypto wallet and bought/sold on the open market.

Dark Energy Crystals (DEC)

Dark Energy Crystals are the in-game currency in Splinterlands. You earn it through "burning" (i.e. destroying) one of your cards or by winning battles in ranked games. You will get extra DEC if you win your battles using gold foil and/or alpha edition cards. Your winning streak will give you a boost in DEC rewards as well. However, if you are playing several matches in a row the amount of DEC you are eligible to receive goes down each time you win. This recharges over time and is referred to as your Capture Rate.

Using Your DEC

Shop: Your DEC can be spent in the shop for new Winds of Change card packs (called orbs), deluxe skins for your cards, and potions. The potions are used for things like increased drop rates of the more valuable cards, extra daily reward cards or even a chance for a daily mystery item.

Buy/Sell/Trade: You can sell your DEC on the open market by converting it into Tokens on either the Steem or Tron blockchains and then selling those tokens. Of course, you could also send tokenized DEC as a gift as well. You can also purchase tokenized DEC from one of the markets and "open" the token to add the DEC to your balance.
