Well I guess its not a secret anymore now that I've made this post. In my previous post almost 2 months ago, I discussed selling all my cards and essentially quiting the game. Well that only lasted about a week and a half. Then I was back using level one cards from my promo starter set and playing at the lowest leagues. It required some patience because I didn't own any cards and I was getting one card a day from my daily quests. But I found that I actually enjoyed playing against newbies and low level bots, and over the weeks I kept playing and growing. Along the way, @rentmoney was nice enough to delegate some cards to my Green Splinter.
During my time back I've had the worst luck in terms of my daily and season Rewards cards. Just getting a Rare card has felt like a miracle. Then today this happened:
Things were going so good for me with 3 Gold Foils already that as soon as I saw the gold shake on the Legendary card I knew it was going to be a Gold Foil legendary. It turned out to be a Gold Foil Black Dragon. The lowest price card on the market was $175 which is almost double the value of my Steemit and SM card collection combined. I've already put the card on the market for $150. It may end up being a tough sell at that price because I think the burn price is around $75. But it is one of the rarest cards with only 50 in circulation.
I'm uncertain as to what I'm going to do with the money I get from the card. I don't know if I want to power up the Steem or try to build a more powerful Steem Monsters collection. Or I guess I could do a combination of both.
There are some exciting new developments with Steem Monsters. Yesterday the option of joining a Guild was introduced. I probably won't join one because I'm not sure I really want the commitment. What i'm really looking forward to is the mobile app which is coming out later this year. To me it will provide a quick and easy way to play in my spare time.

I felt a little bad putting the card up for sale without ever getting to play with it. But I didn't think I could justify keeping it.

Absolutely! Can you even begin to comprehend the cost to you in upkeep, raw meat and don't even mention the mucking out! That's without all the lawsuits from neighboring farmers brandishing fiery pitchforks and charred sheep!
I think you made the right choice my friend, some pets are just too much trouble!
I'm always happy to find you still kicking around the corridors after my frequent returns and absences lol. Hope you are well, take great care man... I gotta learn this game man, although I do worry about my addictive personality lol, especially after reading your previous post.

The game definitely creates incentives to play every day so if you think that would be a problem for you maybe you should stay away. That being said at this point to me it feels like a more active community than Steemit itself. Its got a lot of active players and an active Discord channel.
If you wanted to get started I could definitely help you and give you some tips/hints on starting to build a collection especially given the fact that the prices of most cards have risen drastically in the last month or two.
Also I read your latest post a couple of days ago but I didn’t comment because I couldn’t quite decide on what I should comment about.

I signed up using your referral. Though I don't think I'll ever play the game for money. I'm not into betting games.

I got a gold Unicorn in my season rewards a couple weeks ago. So I'm up to two gold legendaries in the last 3 months. I wonder what the odds of that are. I know that I've gotten really lucky especially considering that I've played mostly in the Silver league.
