Since the very beginning, one of our major goals for Steem Monsters was to market the game and bring in large numbers of players from outside the existing Steem community. This is something we have felt that none of the apps on the platform have been able to do to any significant degree, which makes it really hard for the platform to grow.
To date, Steem Monsters has created over 2,500 new Steem accounts and has brought in over $80,000 of other cryptocurrencies directly converted to STEEM in the open market. While this is great, it's also still a relatively small amount and we know we can do a lot better.
Announcing a New Partnership
With that in mind, today we are extremely excited to announce our first major initiative to bring Steem Monsters to another very large and active crypto/blockchain community - TRON!
Steem Monsters has partnered with the Sesameseed organization who are the top block producer (known as Super Representative) on the TRON blockchain. Sesameseed has their own token - SEED - on the TRON blockchain which is backed by their block producer rewards, and they run a crowdfunding platform called SEEDGerminator which allows projects to raise funding from the Sesameseed and TRON community for their project.
Unlike platforms like Kickstarter or Indiegogo where anyone can list a project for funding, the Sesameseed team handpicks only a select few projects that they feel will bring significant value to their community and to SEED token holders to be listed on the SEEDGerminator platform. Steem Monsters is proud and excited to have been chosen to be the next listing which is expected to be open for funding on Monday, April 15th!
Integrating with TRON
The funds raised from the SEEDGerminator campaign will go towards creating a new front-end website for the game which will be integrated in certain ways with the TRON blockchain and various TRON wallet software. This new website will also be rebranded as "Splinterlands" and over time the entire product will slowly transition to this new name.
We want to be very clear, however, that in no way is Steem Monsters leaving the Steem platform, or even reducing our dependency on the Steem blockchain in any way. The exact opposite is true, in fact, as we are using this as a mechanism to promote the Steem blockchain to the wider crypto and blockchain community.
The new Splinterlands website will still operate on the Steem blockchain just like the current Steem Monsters website does. This is very similar to how steemit.com, steempeak.com, and busy.org are all different websites with different branding that all still run on the same underlying Steem blockchain.
Additionally, all of the cards will remain exactly the same and players coming through the new website will be purchasing packs from the same existing pool of 900,000 Beta edition booster packs as everyone else. Aside from four new promotional cards offered through the crowdfunding campaign (more on that later) no new cards or packs are being added to the game. While the supply of cards is not increasing, we expect a significant amount of new demand to be added as we introduce an entirely new community to the game, which should be a huge benefit to our existing community of players and hodlers.
Any new player who signs up through the Splinterlands website will still be creating a Steem account and all of the transactions within the game will still be published to the Steem blockchain and require Resource Credits. The main differences will be that the new site will integrate with the TronLink browser extension (which is similar to Metamask for Ethereum or Steem Keychain for Steem) and will allow players to link their TRON wallet address to their game/Steem account, easily make purchases with TRX and other TRON-based tokens, and in the future we plan to even have a TRX-based market for buying/selling cards.
Gradual Rebranding
Regarding the rebranding of the product name to Splinterlands, we feel that this change is necessary and very important in order to give us the best chance of success in spreading the game to other crypto communities, of which TRON is hopefully just the first of many. At the very least, it avoids confusion about the spelling of Steem and/or association with the popular game platform which is coincidentally called Steam.
The transition will be gradual, and for the forseeable future the Steem Monsters name and website will run alongside the new Splinterlands name and website in exactly the same way that steemit.com runs alongside busy.org and are simply separate interfaces to the same exact underlying platform.
We hope that the Steem community can see how important this partnership is towards our goal of promoting the game to as large of an audience as possible and thereby bringing many more people to Steem in addition to rewarding our earliest supporters - you!
About the SEEDGerminator Crowdfunding Campaign
The upcoming crowdfunding campaign through the SEEDGerminator platform will be open to everyone, and we welcome all of our existing players from the Steem community to participate.
It will work very similarly to our previous Kickstarter campaign, except that contributions must be made in either TRX or the Sesameseed SEED token. There will be significant advantages to contributing via the SEED token over TRX, and information on the various ways to acquire SEED tokens will be made available before the campaign goes live.
Like with the Kickstarter, there will be a set of four new, exclusive promo cards added to the game (shown above) which will only ever be obtainable via a contribution to this campaign. Once the campaign has ended, the only way to acquire these cards in the future will be to purchase them on the market from other players, which, as we have seen with the Kickstarter cards, can be quite expensive! While the stats and abilities for these new cards are still TBD, you can rest assured that they will be very competitive in ranked and tournament play and should, therefore, be highly sought after.
The campaign is scheduled to go live for funding on Monday, April 15th, and run for up to 2 weeks. There will be a hard cap of 5,000,000 TRX/SEED that can be contributed, so if you want to participate don't wait too long! If you don't make it into the first campaign, don't worry, as we are planning to run this as a two-part campaign, with a second opportunity to contribute and pick up the exclusive cards sometime in May or June of this year.
You can find the full details and information about the campaign Here as well as on their Steem post Here.
Please Support our Partner
Since this partnership goes both ways, we also strongly encourage everyone here to learn more about the Sesameseed organization at https://sesameseed.org and some of the fantastic opportunities they have to offer through voting for them as Tron Super Representative with staked TRX and through their own SEED token.
Sesameseed has also recently set up a Steem account where they will be posting future news and updates for their organization, so please give them a follow and an upvote at https://steempeak.com/@sesameseedorg
Get in Before the Rush!
This partnership is effectively adding TRON community members to the existing Steem Monsters ecosystem. As mentioned above, the card supply is not increasing aside from the four new promo cards, but the demand may increase significantly. When we're adding a community of thousands of crypto gamers it has a massive potential to bring a lot players who are looking to grab high-level decks very quickly. This may be one of your last opportunities to get into the game before the floodgates start to open!
Awesome things are happening! This is great news!

I knew something was coming and this is why I stopped selling any of my cards and now hoarding them, this game could end up huge and have extremely valuable cards and make everything seem like a bargain at the moment.
One thing I would like to see in the future is some kind of merchandising, ie t-shirts or plush toys.
Every t-shirt could come with a code for an exclusive card

"While the stats and abilities for these new cards are still TBD, you can rest assured that they will be very competitive in ranked and tournament play and should therefore be highly sought after."
As a long time magic player, this is kinda unacceptable for a multitude of reasons, primarily, the pay wall to be competitive being much higher... I'll still play, but idk... This isn't inspiring.. but casual gamers don't seem to be the point of this marketing campaign. And power gamers, well, I feel they will see right thru this as well.. of course some of the financial people may buy in just to resell.. but how does that do your players justice?
But it's nice to have more targets to aim for when playing, to complete the set at least. But man... I feel this approach is all wrong. Look at all the flac wizards is getting for doing the same type of deal going forward with their direct from wizards purchases... A large portion of the MTG community was, not inspired. Altho... I did buy up some magic collections pretty cheap when some players rage quit.

The game is still fun at the lower levels but I don't like that people with more money can get more reward cards. Almost everything is like that though and at least lower level players can get a valuable card occasionally.

Agreed, I do enjoy the game and forming strategies,.. I've decided to focus on a blue healing strategy so far, haven't broke 1700 or so, last season, but still trying.
And not everything has to be this exclusive to pay to win crowds.. many games are going towards a pay to skin, but playing fields more even,... This was a poor kid who knows strategy can compete at the top levels.. imagine chess with skins, now that would bring more players to the classic game of strategy,..

Online games will always be like this this and reflect real life where some people have more money than others. Unlike in MGT or other card games you can't write an article and then funnel the proceeds into the game. Nor are they non-fungible tokens. Unless you're advocating for socialism, that is.

Continuing my comment to @sharpshot here as it's more relevant..
// anyways... forgot this is blockchain land, where optimists are headed to the moon for lambos.. (; lol. I do believe in a bright future, but capitalism needs to shift to a more artistic and creative focus,.. AI and Automaton are a few years out, as well as events out of our control, with global warming and etc... Or Trump.
Anyways, I can wait out those storms and eat the beautiful pie on the other side, where the grass is greener.
Also, your thinking is flawed in that online games will always be like this... You should have more compassion and belief in humanity. ^>^ we are slow learner's, but in the ebb and flow of it all, the light never goes black, but it does fade from time to time.

Creativity has always been a major factor of capitalism. It actually helps you be more creativity because you're not just getting the pleasure of creating or the recognition, you're also able to survive from it. AI and automation is a good thing. It's evolve or die. Sure what we're doing right now didn't exist a few years ago. Look up the 'Luddites'. They were wrong.

This is awesome! I am especially happy about the rebranding . I’m sure a lot of people will be resistant to this but it’s not really a big deal in the long run. Goldmoney did this very early on as the the platform was first called “Bitgold”. The rebranding was to avoid confusion with Bitcoin which was just becoming popular at the time. At first there was a ton of flack for the rebrand but since the company was so new (just like steemmonsters) this eventually went away and now no one ever talks about the original name.
This is something I wish Steemit.com would have done about a year ago, but imo its still not to late to rebrand to avoid the confusion between the company, the app, and the blockchain.
Congrats guys for having the juevos to make this change so early on!

This is way better than I thought it was going to be having read it about it earlier today. I thought there was going to be two separate versions but it seems to be two communities coming together. As someone who uses both cryptos I'm impressed but I'll be honest, the Steem community is way nicer and Steem runs way smoother.

I'm curious why you decided to buy Tron? Was it before STEEM announced the partnership?
I bought Tron at 2.1 cents, but unfortunately sold them before this recent spike. Could have been up 30% but instead I got out with only 15% profit. Worst part is now I don't have any Trons for the Kickstarter.
C'est la vie.

I got involved with Tron through the Tronwallet.me TWX telegram airdrop at the end of March. Then after looking into TRX and BTT I decided TRX was undervalued. A bear market is a great time to get into any asset. There's a lot of upside at 2-3 cents.

Yes, it's great isn't it....make people buy more shit just to keep up with everyone else, and make it even more expensive. Screw all the people who spent all that money without being told that everything was going to be turned into something completely different than the original form, that will eventually make their decks uncompetitive unless they keep "paying" to be competitive. Congrats to all the people with deep pockets or large followings on here who can continue to do that, and fund their way to success, but some of us can't and will just leave the game because we are not important any longer.....neither are our collections which will become useless as more time passes and just collect virtual dust. But who cares right? We will just sell everything at 1/2 price or less and make everyone happy. Those people will just be ignored and everyone will move on. Keep feeding the same people at the top with the deep pockets......Oh shit, was my comment not nice enough or complimentary enough? I Guess it wont be welcomed then, since people are only interested in fake compliments and PR spin.

On the contrary your existing deck could become more expensive with the increased demand. So smile. Every Blockchain game is like this. At least we own the assets as NFT's, unlike traditional online games.

While your small point based on what I said "may" turn out to be true in the very long run, it may also not....besides, that was not even close to what my main point was.
The main point was constantly introducing new cards and features into the game, making people buy shit just to be to be competitive, and how ridiculously expensive it all is. It wasn't supposed to be that way. And, if you don't constantly "upgrade" you become irrelevant. So what your cards are worth on the market, does not help you in the game or give you any greater chance at success.
The other problem is, that almost all the wealth and cards are being sucked up by very few people in the overall scheme of things....that's what everyone on this platform has always complained about...but here we are continuing that trend. Do people have amnesia all of a sudden? Of course. Self-Interest and self-interest only. That's all that matters....
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

Of course self interest is all that matters. That's the whole point of everything. You say that as if it's a bad thing.

Is that the only part that stuck with you? Did I say that self-interest was all bad or that it doesn't or shouldn't exist? I don't think so. But if ONLY self-interest was all that mattered and nothing else, then the game WILL NOT GROW. That would stifle growth and would not incentivise current or prospective players to buy or own their own decks. And that is exactly what is happening. Pack sales and player numbers are low. The numbers being thrown around are deceptive and false.

It wouldn't stifle growth. Not growing is not in your self interest.

Why do you feel screwed? The gsme won't change and your card collection will get more valueable because of the increased player base.
I know another set of cards but like with the promo cards they will not be the oney that make the game.
I also exhausted my investments and won't be able to max out further but thats not problem as long the game gets more popular.

Well, I'm not only speaking for myself, so I don't feel screwed only on an individual level. I can guarantee you that there are many others that feel the same way, but none of them ever get heard. They just leave. The game will change..It always has, so what you may think is not needed now, may be very much needed in the future. But, when will It end? At what point will the constant release of cards that require more and more spending ever end? Since when did the development and improvement of the game require this many card releases within such a short period of time? Those questions are not for you to answer of course, but I'm just throwing them out there, for obvious reasons.

Yeah, I understand you on that point. I guess there will be no really end to this game in terms of how many cards get released. But I think the game will become more casual over time because several improvements to the overall gameplay haven't even been touched in discussions like. Guilds, DEC, Items, Spells, Skins, PVE and the option to purchase land or do crafting with items.
This game will become very versatile and awesome for every type of player (of course thats just in my mind) but we need to give the game more time to develop itself.
Any other Game that tries to achieve the same will also need a lot of time, patience and support from its community.
So Users who are leaving now never really had the interest to dig deeper into this game and "they" feel screwed because they had the wrong expectations from the beginning. I mean how can you feel screwed if you play the "daily Quest" and get "season rewards" after a while you sell your Deck for maybe 75% of its value. Most users would have made profit and had a good time playing the game for a short while.
They will come back when all this updates are in place...I guess. Lets cross fingers that SM gets the whole thing right until the end of the year!

while i love what you're doing, I don't think I understand how taking STEEM out of the name helps to promote STEEM...
If you integrated with Tron and remained, STEEMMonsters, I could understand because it brings STEEM to a whole new community, but from my understanding, to everyone in the Tron world, this will be "Splinterlands" and they won't even think about STEEM.

@steemmonsters Will the Splinterlands site for tron users allow for their players to play against Steem players or will their game be mutually exclusive?
