Steem Monsters- Blue Splinter Lore Sneak Peek!

I have caught the steem monsters bug.
It's addictive, like pokemon. It makes me feel competitive the way that few, few things do.

There's no sound though, because I have a weird thing about game sounds. The music is created by the beautiful and talented @isaria though, and you should totally check it out.

I will not post my losses. They are far too crushing.

Working on the lore for the blue splinter was one of the highlights of my summer. I worked on a team with @staceyjean @brixboston @foxfiction @wholeself-in @khimera2000 and @k8_schwifty. Everyone was such a joy to work with, and brought fantastic ideas to the table!

One of the key aspects of Azmare (named after the word for Azure/blue and latin for sea, pronounced Az-mar-ay. Mar pronounced like mars) was that, because of the fact that there are multiple moons, the tides are a major part of that world. Tides tend to be very high, or very low, and this impacts all of the inhabitants in one way or another. There are yearly supra tides (extremely high) that flood homes extensively, as well as neap tides (extremely low) that expose the ocean floor. Both sea-bound and land-bound races have developed ways to live within these intense environs.

Land-bound races in temperate zones use a number of systems within their homes to avoid being flooded by the yearly Supra tides. The majority of homes float or rest on stilts. More expensive homes might use a system of dams, floodgates, and magic to keep the water from completely entering the building. Some homes are designed to go partially underwater, and have rooms that take advantage of the flooding by creating fountains and other water features within the house that only function during Supra tides or the regular smaller minor high tides.

The Mermaids are well known for developing their elaborate underwater structures during their celebrations. As a Mer-person reaches the age of majority, they add on to the community. Part of their place in that society is determined by the aesthetic value of the home they created. These homes are filled with objects stolen from the air-breather’s homes during Supra Tide season and beautiful items made from coral. Artistry is far more important than utility for their living spaces. Homes are also built with elaborate ways to maintain the water level inside, sometimes through magic and occasionally through hydro-power developed by the Uman inventors. Most chose to live in Poisedar, their chosen city.

The Naga sneer at the need to develop any kind of shelter in the ocean or on the land. Generally, they can be found in abandoned underwater buildings, submerged ships, or caves. They have no interest in creature comforts or things, except for their jealously guarded weapons and the tools required to create them. They are nomadic and solitary, so rarely will they live in the same place.

Insults for greenlanders: Waterjacker, Slime, Sludge
General insult- salt or salty (meaning diseased, impacted by The Burn) For Example: That wench is quite salty, I don’t recommend using her services.
Air-breather- minor insult waterbound races use for landbound races.
Gilled- minor insult landbound races use for waterbound races (rarely applies to Naga, as they react violently to any insult).
Azmareans find the reverent speech of the Gloridrax quite hilarious, and they enjoy mocking it in a way that the dragonborn would find shocking and blasphemous. “Praise Suam!” might follow an especially loud belch. Praise the rum!
