I'm sure everyone has checked out @steemmonsters now, the Steem blockchain game where you can collect cards, and bring them to play in tournaments. The game was officially released into alpha mode last week, and there has already been some major updates since then.
There is still no actual gameplay, but so far they have added the ability for players to send unopened card packs as well as cards to other players. This mean that it is now possible to buy and sell cards, allowing for people to potentially begin to make a profit on investing in the cards.
If you want to buy or sell cards, then you have to do it the old fashioned way, since there is no official marketplace or auction UI. This means that you need to manually find someone who are looking to buy or sell cards if you want them. I think there are plans for a marketplace i the future, but right now you've got to initiate the trades yourself.
I decided to buy and open another 10 Booster Packs today, which cost me $20, and gives me a total of 50 cards since each pack has 5 cards. And to my surprise, I actually got my first Legendary card this time!
As you can see, the card in named Lord of Darkness, and I obviously have no idea if it will be a powerful card to use when the game itself launches. I'm crossing my fingers that I will be able to build a deck around it.

Hey, congratulation! I’m jealous, if this does turn out to be a magic the gathering type game I’m aiming for red/black so you Lord of Darkness is right up my street. I was initially sceptical with this whole collecting digital assets thing but seeing as the how platform has gone mad for it I thought what the hell and jump in too, and it’s now a level of stupid fun that I really didn’t expect!

When @aggroed published thr post about @steemmonsters I was about to sleep at almost 3:30 am in the night. I'm a minnow on steemit as you can see my account as well, that time Igot almost 4 sbd in my account and I purchased my starter pack worth 5$. One of my friend got angry with me that what have I done. And I said it's ok this initiative will not hurt more in the future when gameplay will start, and when I saw you joined @steemmonsters discord group I was so excited to saw you there, but I didn't mentioned you that time, well best of luck for the fight, hopefully I'll not be your opponent without having a legendary or epic card 😉

Hei @everydaycoach. Steemmonsters er et spill som bygger på toppen av Steem-blokkjeden, og det skal utvikles til å bli et RPG kortspill (tenk Hearthstone, Gwent eller Magic the Gathering). Så langt er det ikke så mye å gjøre der foruten å kjøpe pakker med kort, og disse kan selges til andre samlere. Så hvis man har litt flaks kan man tjene litt penger på å kjøpe pakker og få gode kort, som så selges til andre. Men det er kun flaks det går i nå. Når selve spillet begynner vil det nok bli flere muligheter for å tjene penger på det ;)

Jeg har kjøpt meg noen pakker og vet vel ikke helt hva jeg har som er bra og ikke. Men kommer vel sikkert inn i det etterhvert. Etter hva jeg kan se så er det ikke marked for kjøp og salg internt ennå?
Hvordan setter man verdien på de ulike kortene da? Jeg har fått 2 kort som er epic, vil vel tro det er noe spennende med de:)

Nei, det er ikke noe internmarked ennå, men det er på vei. Det er en del som kjøper og selger kort her på Steemit, og inne på Steemmonster Discord serveren. Tror det er noen folk som kjøper Epic kort, men den største verdien får man for Legendary kort. Disse får man gjerne solgt for nærmere 20 Steem per kort.

Haven't checked it out myself (because I really don't want to be sucked in XD) but have definitely heard a lot about it, it does seem like "everyone" (or at least a hell of a lot of people) are jumping on it, and it looks like it could be tonnes of fun :) And although I'm now pretty much skipping over excited squee about the game posts, I'll probably be checking out everyone's deck builds when they get around to building, or even checking out collection brags, because some things I can't help ;D

Oh it's not money that's the issue (although money can occasionally be an issue), it's time, I stopped playing Magic because it's a massive timesink (with Pokemon I know the games will be 30min or less, and my partner is trying to bribe me back with pretty cards XD). Ah, that makes sense! These types of games can be really addictive, but if Steemmonsters is successful, it might be both fun and profitable to get sucked into the game. But we're still a long way from that point, and first we need to find out if the gameplay itself will even be fun. I'm pretty sure it's very difficult to make a card game that is both balanced and fun at the same time.
