Yea it sucks. Easiest way to make an account I think is via @blocktrades . You can get an account within a couple days or same day if I recall. We still need a better process. The moment we have a mainstream process will be the moment steem blows up.

I think steemit.com needs to make more account creation options seeing as it's the main way new people will create accounts.
