Please read trough this post as i need your feedback!
New on the menu of Steempayments: SteemPay mobile wallet. SteemPay mobile will be fully separated from Steemit. The main functionallity will behave much like the blockchain.info mobile wallet.
Here are some highligts:
- Easy registration and account creation.
- Import existing keys.
- Scan QR code to upvote posts. (thanks @jesta for this idea!)
- Process payments using QR codes instead of a form (on steemit)
However, there are some issues where i need community feedback.
Account creation, be it a new, or an account with keys where the user provides his own set of keys, requires a fee of 3 STEEM (at this moment) to broadcast. There are a few options to cover these costs:
1: The user pays the fee before creating a new account.
A mobile payment would be required before broadcasting your new account to the network. This might scare away people, leaving only the already existent steemers in the game.
2: A small monthly subscription will apply.
I'm talking about a few cents each month. Let's say 0.25$ every month. This option might also scare away users.
3: Transaction fee.
Every transaction will take a small fee for the developer. I personally hate fees, but this might be a good road to take.
4: SteemPay.io pays the account creation fee during startup.
I don't mind paying the 3 STEEM per account (yet). But if there are a theoretical +10k users, it will no longer be viable. Funds would come from posting rewards.
5: Ads and other annoying stuff
Flooding the wallet with ads and other annoying popup stuff. It will break the creation fee even, but this is my last option since we all hate this kind of stuff.
6: Steempay.io pays the account creation fee forever, but get's the user approval to upvote all posts related to it.
Using the posting key, it would be possible for us to upvote all posts regarding SteemPay. This could even be integrated using streemian to remain transparant. I'm sure @xeroc would love to join forces on auto integration.
Before continuing on the work, i need a consensus over this.
Please share your thoughts or ideas in the comment section!
I like either Ads or transaction fees. We really shouldn't discount ads, that could bring the Big Money to steem.

I would start this out in an MVP state, and make it so that account creation isn't even a part of it. The core goal should be importing an existing account via QR code or private key, and use it as a tool to empower existing users.
I believe the dev team is working on solutions right now for account creating, you can find them on github. I'd wait to see what their solution is instead of creating your own solution.
Account creation can come at a later date honestly. I don't see people downloading the app before they create an account here on steemit, it's not going to be a channel to spur user adoption. Use the existing infrastructure (and faucets) for the time being and just get the product out the door :)

IMO this is the best approach. Given that there currently is no direct way to register an account, it's clear further development of the concept is necessary, be it the UI / UX or ideology that drives it (will accounts always need to be tied to some other authenticated ID like it is now?), and what incentives or business considerations come into play.
I would avoid potential conflicts between your account creation methodology and any that Steemit devs may come up with.

Hmm. Tough one. Some mobile apps require you to sign up via the browser. I think, for now, I'm okay with that being the case here. The more STEEM the Steemit account can distribute to others, the better off the whole platform will be. There's also the concern about people creating a lot of accounts through your signup flow without having to authenticate with Facebook/Reddit.
So I guess my answer would be:
0.. None of the above. Go to Steemit.com to create an account.

I go with 6 as it won't hurt users to autovote for something, that they are using. Maybe there should also be an option to choose between 1 and 6, so that users can decide.

#6 gets my vote! Use the platform to help pay the fees. The only transparency needed here is the impact on ones voting power. IMO, a small price to pay for a wallet.

What is the meaning of this? Now almost everyone has smart phones with fast Internet that you can use for purses on this site or exchanges.

I'm personally against any auto voting. Even people without much coding knowledge could change a few lines of code and bots could be more common.
Ads are annoying and oftentimes intrusive. Monthly subs could be problematic for some folks who don't have sufficient funds at the end of the month for whatever reason. I personally like the transaction fee. We already have additional fees in most things in our daily lives.

Here is another one. Community ads.
How about ads that steemit users pay for.
Example I want to promote a post, so I pay ad fees and support the community at the same time. That would keep away some ad companies that are just mining for data.

I like option 2. People with no money would not object to paying such a small fee ($0.25) and they would think that they could earn that amount anyway. Option 6 would probably work but it does feel a little artificial to me. Failing these, I'd go for advertising. Like somebody has already said, we have wall -to- wall advertising anyway in our daily lives, and steemit may need to use advertising (I voted for weekend-only advertising).

What about 6 with the caveat that steempay upvotes steempay users posts in return say once a week or once every two weeks. It may be a way for users to break even.

3: Transaction fee.
I think we should support developers with small transaction fees. By doing it we can be assure that the project will continue development, improvement and upgrades. I upvote to support developers. They really work hard to bring this products to the community.
