I'm sorry to disagree with you Sass but I find your objections rather shallow and unconvincing vis-a-vis the reasons of people are FOR RevGov. In fact, I'm sorry to say that I find them rather duplicitous, coming as they are on the eve of the RevGov rally. What exactly do you hope to achieve? Sana tumahimik ka na lang.
Most questionable is your statement that "Duterte's admin will be besieged by armed uprisings against having this absolute power. Absolute power, after all, invites absolute resistance". Really? And who exactly will conduct these armed uprisings you speak of? The Muslim rebels will not. The NPA and the Muslim extremists are already doing their worst. So, will the people suddenly take up armed struggle on the instance of Soc Villegas and Trililing and the LP backed by the drug lords and their minions? Are you delirious?
When Marcos declared ML, there was no chaos or violence or widespread armed uprising. It was quite the opposite. Order was restored and maintained. Many activists like I was at the time figured that life and liberty were much more desirable than fighting for some abstract principles and only the most extreme ran to the mountains to join the NPA. And there were not really that many of them either. And no Western Governments undermined him either.
Upon deeper reflection, comparatively speaking, the problems Marcos faced at the time and his reasons for declaring Martial Law were rather more one-dimensional and somewhat contrived and selfish. Nobody really wanted him to declare ML and a much greater proportion of the people were actually more decidedly against it and him. We are now facing much graver and many more issues with far less options as well.
When Cory declared a RevGov, the only reason for the many coup attempts were because of HER duplicity and reneging on promises and pursuit of her own corrupt agenda. Besides, she really the original Leni, who did not know what she was doing and neither did the people know what they wanted her to do. So THAT was what happened. She did survive with minimal damage nonetheless.
Even GMA essentially twisted the Constitution to grab power, While there were protests, they seemed to fade away rather quickly.
This time around, the call for RevGov is not something promoted by selfish political interests with ulterior motives but is rather a call that has spontaneously sprung from the grassroots at NO ONE's behest. I was one of those who started calling for RevGov long before any effort to organize started. It seems so many others were of like mind, considering I am not at all famous 🙂 And this is not a call to topple any government to favor anyone's political ambitions but rather essentially simply a call to grant EXTRAORDINARY POWERS to someone who has already proven himself to be the most NOBLE and CAPABLE leader in Philippine history. You should in fact be the first to recognize that.
And if that RevGov is declared because of the DEMAND OF THE PEOPLE FOR IT, rather than simply because Duterte wants it, how will Western countries consider that illegitimate? Besides, they are already supplying the ISIS covertly with arms like they did in Syria, so?
So again, where is this "absolute resistance" you are talking of supposed to come from?
It is in fact, the realization that "there's actual work needed to be done and it won't be as easy as one thinks it is while only thinking about it" and that time is not on our side that pushes us to call for RevGov. Not to forment chaos or destruction but rather to GET THINGS DONE PROPERLY without the obstructions caused by the enemies of the people.
