Tras Andrómeda

Una pequeña flota de seis sumergibles robot fue lanzada desde el aire; como si de un cardumen de peces se tratara, se adentraron en el helado océano de aquel gigantesco planeta; una mega tierra hubiese sido llamado por los antiguos humanos, de antes de la primera catástrofe. Su poderosa fuerza de gravedad, lo hacía inhabitable para la humanidad actual, adaptada a gravedades más gentiles, además, la mezcla de gases de su atmósfera, resultaba tóxica aparte de tener una presión que podría hacer colapsar los pulmones humanos.

Pese a esto, la señal de una baliza, sospechosamente parecida a las humanas, provenía del oscuro y profundo fondo del océano de este mundo. No se trataba del código de una nave conocida y la encriptación de la señal, si bien no era conocida, era increíblemente parecida a los protocolos de codificación humanos.

A medida que los robots se aproximaban al fondo, la presión ascendía a cifras casi intolerables para los dispositivos, afortunadamente, alcanzaron la profundidad máxima, antes del colapso de sus corazas de carbono. La búsqueda duró cerca de media hora, antes de que uno de los robots reportara la localización del origen de la señal.

El objeto, del tamaño de una nave pequeña, fue recuperado con la ayuda de otros tres robots que tuvieron que ser lanzados, para ayudar a los primeros seis, a levantar el pesado artefacto. Se trataba de una sonda de exploración, posiblemente lanzada por los humanos de Andrómeda, su tecnología si no era tan avanzada como la de Perseo, era notablemente parecida, el dispositivo tenia un motor de impulso espaciotemporal primitivo y un reactor de antimateria también obsoleto ante los de energía de vacío, pero servia para cumplir a lo que creyeron era su propósito.

Por lo visto se trataba de una sonda de exploración, para la búsqueda de mundos habitables, por el agotamiento de las baterías de su baliza debía tener entre mil y mil quinientos años de haber acabado aquí, al agotarse su combustible de antimateria.

Probablemente fue diseñado y abastecido con suficiente combustible para llegar aquí a reportar las condiciones del planeta, para después caer y mantener la señal de su baliza activa, hasta ser localizado, cuando sus creadores vinieran al rescate, de presentar este mundo condiciones apropiadas para ser habitado.

La información que pueda ser desencriptada de la IA de vuelo y los cálculos sobre la posible distancia recorrida gracias a la capacidad del reactor, contribuirá, junto a otros rastros hallados a lo largo de los últimos doscientos años luz, a seguir trazando el rumbo seguido por la flota de los humanos de Andrómeda.

Se había vuelto una prioridad para el Parlamento, conocer la ubicación de estos otros sobrevivientes de la colonización humana, hasta hace varios cientos de años desconocidos, y basado en los cálculos de su ruta y velocidad, posiblemente estaban aun a varios cientos de años de ubicarlos, a menos que se hayan asentado en algún mundo y su viaje haya finalmente acabado ahí.

Por lo pronto esta sonda era otra migaja más, del rastro de ellas, que había sido dejado atrás involuntariamente, por la otra rama de la colonización humana en la vía láctea.

Following Andromeda

A small fleet of six submersible robots was launched from the air; as if it were a school of fish, they entered the icy ocean of that gigantic planet; a mega land would have been called by ancient humans before the first catastrophe. Its powerful force of gravity made it uninhabitable for present-day humanity, adapted to gentler gravitations; in addition, the mixture of gases of its atmosphere was toxic apart from having a pressure that could cause the human lungs to collapse.

In spite of this, the sign of a beacon, suspiciously similar to the human ones, came from the dark and deep bottom of the ocean of this world. It was not the code of a known spacecraft, and the encryption of the signal, while unknown, was incredibly similar to human coding protocols.

As the robots approached the bottom, the pressure rose to almost intolerable numbers for the devices, fortunately, they reached maximum depth before their carbon shells collapsed. The search lasted about half an hour, before one of the robots reported the location of the signal's origin.

The object, the size of a small spacecraft, was recovered with the help of three other robots that had to be launched to help the first six to lift the heavy artifact. It was an exploration probe, possibly launched by Andromeda's humans, its technology if not as advanced as that of Perseus, was remarkably similar, the device had a primitive space-time impulse engine and an antimatter reactor also obsolete before those of vacuum energy, but served to fulfill what they believed was its purpose.

Apparently it was a probe of exploration, for the search of inhabitable worlds, for the exhaustion of the batteries of its beacon it must have been between one thousand and one thousand five hundred years old of having finished here, when its antimatter fuel was exhausted.

Probably it was designed and supplied with enough fuel to arrive here to report the conditions of the planet, to later fall and to maintain the signal of its active beacon, until being located, when its creators came to the rescue, to present this world appropriate conditions to be inhabited.

The information that can be decrypted from the flight AI and the calculations about the possible distance traveled thanks to the capacity of the reactor, will contribute, together with other traces found throughout the last two hundred light years, to continue tracing the course followed by the Andromeda human fleet.

It had become a priority for Parliament to know the location of these other survivors of human colonization, until several hundred years ago unknown, and based on calculations of their route and speed, they were possibly even several hundred years away from locating them, unless they had settled in some world and their journey had finally ended there.

For the time being this probe was yet another crumb, from the trace of them, which had been involuntarily left behind by the other branch of human colonization in the Milky Way.
