Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on counter-sanctions against the United States and other "hostile states". The normative act was approved by the two Chambers of Parliament - the State Duma and the Council of the Federation, respectively on May 22 and May 30.
The law empowers the government to order the president to impose various measures to counteract hostile states but they should not affect vital goods, which analogues are not produced in Russia and other countries.
The counter-sanctions may be taken by the President and on the recommendation of the Security Council of the Russian Federation. There is also a procedure for canceling contrasts if the reasons for their imposition are dropped.
In the course of the debates on the draft law, the texts referring to specific sectors, goods and services were removed from the final version and the list of possible countermeasures was abbreviated. Response measures concern not only "hostile states", but also organizations under their jurisdiction, as well as officials and citizens of these countries.
The law must enter into force on the day of its official publication.

This unilateral sanction initiated by the U.S. will lose its effectiveness once the world no longer trades in USD.
