A recent increase of the public transportation fare has created a tense scenario in Santiago, capital of Chile. Citizens manifested their discontent avoiding payment, receiving repressive behavior as response from the government, including a shooting where a student girl was wounded.
Yesterday tensions escalated through the city, with multiple protests. The president, Sebastian Piñera, avoided talking about the demands of the protesters but assured that security measures would be taken. During the course of the day several metro-stations were set on fire and submitted to considerable damage.
Things climaxed when a building of was set on fire and the country was placed under state of emergency, with the release of military forces unto the streets. More information here.
