How We Are Literally Losing Our Touch With Nature

How are we losing our touch with nature? You may have remembered that from high school we learned about earthing. A process where excess charges (electrons) are transferred from a negatively charged area to a neutral area. This concept is the basis for circuit breakers, to ground our home base electrical appliances to protect from getting electrical shocks.

But earthing also occurs on a biological level, with the human body as its conductor. You see, the Earth has an immense amount of electrons, which are free-flowing underneath the soil, sand & oceans. And the human body is extremely conductive, meaning that we easily lose and gain energy from our surroundings.

Having direct contact with the ground is good

When we make direct contact with the ground, the electrons from the Earth will flow to our body, which literally giving us energy. Think about the times when you were younger. Doesn’t playing around at the playground, beach or just camping out in the woods make you feel more rejuvenated and energized? Haven’t you ever felt that there was something about being in touch with nature that gives you energy? But because of the modern lifestyle society adopts today, we can go for weeks or even months on end without walking barefoot, or touching a tree. The shoes and sneakers we adore so much are actually the perfect insulators. These insulators prevent us from getting that boost of energy. It also doesn’t help that houses are made of entirely unnatural materials made from cement and bricks. Staying at home all day without any contact with the earth can devoid us of energy and this is one reason why we feel lethargic or lazy when we stay indoors for too long.

Earthing brings you many health benefits

Earthing also brings about many health benefits, one of the biggest being the reduction of inflammation. This is because of the white blood cell is known as the neutrophil. Neutrophil releases free radicals to the site of injury or need. These free radicals contain a positive charge, and because they seek stability, they will steal electrons from other molecules and leave our body in an electron deficit state. Thankfully, all we need to do to replenish those electrons is to get grounded with the Earth. Studies have shown that just by grounding ourselves, people with tissue injuries, abrasions and cuts will experience accelerated tissue repair and healing.

Get yourself a grounded fitness and yoga mat

Other health benefits of grounding are that it promotes better sleep at night. This promotes the feelings of restfulness, reduced chronic pain and cortisol levels, which are responsible for inducing stress. What more could you ask for! How do we get grounded then? If you’re looking to get grounded, you can consider getting a grounded fitness and yoga mat. What this does is that it allows you to stay connected to the earth while you are indoors in the comfort of your home. You can use it while you are using your computer or even watching the TV. Simply connect the mat to the nearest power socket.

Take one step further

You can even take the grounding one step further. Purchase other grounding equipment such as earthing sheets or pads that go along with your bed. This way, you can stay grounded even while sleeping.Of course, you can also do it the old school way and simply go outdoors. Take a long walk, go for a hike, or even just hug your backyard tree. But remember to leave your shoes behind!
