The history of this game already brings many reasons for your child to learn chess. It dates back to the third century BC, which extended from the sixth century and was consolidated as a favorite pastime of many great men of ancient history, such as Indian kings and Brahmins, Chinese generals and Persian emperors. And, around 1250, the game became popular as a metaphor for the teaching of ethics and morals.

He also encouraged the Soviets the ancient education of chess to the masses in order to stimulate the formation of the mind. Along the way, we have even talked about the importance of using games in learning for future generations. But, this time, we will discuss how this game, in specific, is fundamental for the development of the mind, in addition to other 6 good reasons for your child to learn chess.

How does it benefit children to learn to play chess?
1. Learning chess is easy
Although adults have many blocks in learning, we must remember that children are always very receptive to the discovery and knowledge of the new. In addition, the rules of chess are fixed and relatively simple. That is, there are rules of manipulation for each type of piece and some special moves such as castling, taking in passant and the promotion of a pawn.

Another point that makes it much easier for a child to learn chess is the fact that the pieces are characterized by easily assimilated figures: the pawn, the horse, the bishop, the king, the queen, and the tower. Therefore, this game can be started even in four-year-old children. But, for that, you have to transform the game into a fun one. And, as the new generation prefers to learn with hands-on activities, it is a suggestion to develop a story during the game, like the queen kidnapped by the evil king who needs to be rescued by the good prince.

2. The rules exercise the mind
Chess is a game of logic, based on the possibilities of movement of each of the pieces arranged on the board. Unlike the game of checkers, which is more dynamic, the need to analyze the possible movements of the different pieces makes the child forces his own mind in the search for moves that will make it reach the target, which is the sheik mate in the opponent king.

This stimulus, the analysis of each of the possibilities that try to find out the ramifications of your opponent's movements and actions, is a great way to exercise the mind and expand the analytical potential of your child. Just remember that you should stimulate the child with examples and in a playful way, not forcing the learning of the game.

3. The game stimulates patience
Normally, parents believe that chess is a game too slow and, therefore, can stimulate the child's anxiety for the development of the moves. In fact, it is possible that this will happen - and, in this case, it may be that your child is not yet at the right time to learn chess. However, because it is a game that requires analysis of various movement possibilities and numerous other fraction of their game, children tend to exercise more and more patience and reduce childhood stress.

And that is only possible because she needs more time to make her own decisions. In the beginning, it is very common for the child to act on the impulse. But, with practice, she will perceive that chess is not a hot potato joke, in which one must pass the time to the adversary as soon as possible.

4. Chess awakens respect for the adversary
The challenge of the game, in fact, is not to arrive at the checkmate of the adversary king, but to get to have a better reasoning than his adversary to achieve it. In spite of being a deep analysis, the child assimilates this with great ease when learning chess and moving on to practice it.

This gain is the central point in the development of respect for the adversary and is only conquered as the child wins and loses pieces or matches. That is, it will be understood that the opposite side of the board, there is another player capable of creating game strategies that will not know or will not understand until the results are achieved by the opponent.

5. The capacity of memory develops
Like a game of successive movements on both sides, players need to constantly consult their memory. This is necessary so that they can understand the current positioning of the pieces on the board and even remember the movements and plays made in other matches. It is through this constant exercise of the vascular mind and analyzing the card information that the child stimulates short-term memory and can expand their ability to retain information and access them easily.

6. The parties motivate the decision making
In the beginning, when children - mainly the very young - are still learning chess, it is very common for them to adopt the so-called "mirror plays", in which they imitate exactly the same movements that you do on the board. However, during the game and with a slight interference she, they are forced to create their own plays and develop decision making.

An interesting way to motivate this process is always to question your child. Ask questions like "what do you think will happen to your bishop if I put my tower here?" Or "if you put your horse here, what can happen to my queen?", Suggest ideas and induce decision making for attacks and defenses.
7. Practice increases the ability to predict scenarios
As your child learns chess, developing patience, exercising the mind, improving memory and being more and more capable of making decisions of his own, the ability to predict scenarios will be increased. With that, all other abilities will be further enhanced, as in a virtuous circle.

I love chess and the thinking required to play the game. I taught my son to play at when he was in about 2nd grade. The school let me start an afterschool chess club. It was a lot of fun. The kids were enjoyed learning the game and playing each other.

The teaxhers loved it, because the kids would play chess on rainy days, when they had to stay in for recess.

Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it, it requires a lot of mental agility, children are better than adults, this is an excellent tool to put it into practice.

Your welcome. I'm a big fan of activities that are fun and have kids thinking. I coach a high school policy debate team, another activity that gets kids thinking critically and using logic.
