Agreed, he missed many opportunities to discuss the expansion of RPGs beyond D&D. I found the book to be interesting and full of details about the history of the game.

I think that one of the best strengths of something like this in a book format is its ability to just really go into detail. You could read a lot about the relationship between Gygax and Arneson or the financial woes of TSR without getting quite as clear a picture as you do here.
