Abiword Text Processor: An Open Source Alternative

The Technology, in my opinion, is one of the most useful inventions in modern society. It is present in all the sub-sectors and areas of knowledge; while, computing makes it possible to speed up human processes and activities, which include the elements of fauna and flora.

Up to now, there have been many advances in technology as a vital area for humanity. With a desktop computer, laptop or smartphone, you have access to a great deal of information, and in that case, you need the correct handling of high-tech equipment and software.

Business organizations such as Apple, Macintosh, Linux, Windows and others...offer a range of hardware, devices, and software that are extremely useful and cost effective. Thus, everyone has the opportunity to learn a productive activity.

Through this publication, I want to refer to "Abiword"(from Microsoft Windows Corporation),, which is a kind of computer program (according to the experts in the field). In fact, it is a word processor, part of the GNOME Office, and also part of the Open Source family of programs. It can be used on operating systems: GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows, and others.

With "Abiword", text documents are processed from Microsoft Office and OpenOffice in the following formats: Microsoft Word, OpenDocument,RTF, XML, and HTML, etc. It is fast, reliable and free of charge. Likewise, it is a friendly interface, easy to manipulate in a computer environment. As you can see from the picture above, the interface is similar to "Word" in "Windows".

It is ideal, to use "Abiword", in cases where the technical requirements of the computer to be used are minimal, as it is a low density program. It is even used extensively in obsolete equipment, that is not part of the new computer generations. But, at the same time, they say, it is a Word Processor, which is nothing to envy Microsoft Word or Word Perfect.

It was obvious that "Abiword" was updated several times, but it was always a friendly program for people who used it and still use it 2.8.6 is the latest version known for Windows. Anyone with previous knowledge of software, such as word processors, can handle "Abiword" without any problems.

In a future post, I'll do a tutorial on the manipulation of "Abiword" but in the meantime, I'll download it from the Internet to my computer, avoiding possible virus attacks scattered around the global network. Although the operation is similar to other known ones. For now, the aim of this publication has been to provide you with information about the word processor already mentioned (especially for those who didn't know him), which is also part of the Open Source family... a topic I will also write in the near future.
