Trying WordPress, SteemPress and Vornix all for the first time!!!

in steempress •  7 years ago  (edited)

One thing I really love about the Steem platform is that you don’t need to have many followers in order to feel appreciated and be rewarded for the effort you have put in into creating a post. Sure like any other social sites, if you are just starting out then chances are you’d probably go unnoticed for a day, a week or even a month. But if we are to compare Steem to other blogging platforms like WordPress, then with just the right amount of social interaction (added with some luck) it is far more easier to gain a follower base here compared to other platforms.

The hardest thing for a newbie blogger is gaining an audience. No matter how interesting you think your topic is or how good you think you are at writing and capturing an audience attention, it all wouldn’t matter if no one will be reading it, even more so if you don’t have that much friends who knows the link to your blog and people who just happens to have some free time to visit and read your blog posts.

What I am trying to say here is that for a newbie blogger like me, Steem is the perfect platform to start, try things out and improve your writing without fear of being scrutinized that much. My initial plan (and currently is still what I’m doing) is to only write posts as a way of passing some time while sharing some things I am passionate about. Never did I expect that by doing so I would be earning some cash in return. Right now even with the disappointing price of Steem/SBD lately, I am still averaging at $2-$5 per post and in some lucky days even $10-$15+. I think this is much much more than what my blogger friends are earning on their blogs.

As much as I love the Steem platform I also have some issues about it, one of which is how blog posts are being displayed. Right now, most if not all Steem related platforms (steemit, busy, esteem) display posts in a single-line style. There is just no way to properly organize and categorize posts.

As someone who writes on a variety of topics (Steemtools, Anime, Television, Gaming, Technology) this is more or less an issue. Most of my Steemtool reviews have been proven to have helped new and even experienced Steemians and I think most of the people following me are because of those posts. However lately since I have been busy, some of my blog posts now have turned into personal ones (rants). I honestly want people to know me as someone who writes helpful posts and not just an opinionated someone on the platform. In short, what I want is a somewhat way to organize posts so that people know where to look for helpful posts they would expect from an author.

Introducing SteemPress!

The above issue can easily be solved by using WordPress. WordPress have so much flexibility on how you organize and categorize your blog posts. But as I’ve said, if you are a newbie blogger who wants to immediately have an audience or earn some little cash fast, then the Steem platform is much much better for you. SteemPress is a plugin that closes the gap between Steem and WordPress and was created by @howo and @fredrikaa. The basic idea is that whenever you write a blog post on WordPress, it will also be automatically be posted on the Steem blockchain. Pretty cool right?!

Another issue I have with the Steem platform is the 7day reward system. On Steem, you are only given 7days for your post to earn, no matter how many people upvote/like your post after 7 days, you will no longer be rewarded monetarily. This seems kind of unfair if you are doing “tutorials” that might not be too trendy right now but will probably be popular in the future. With SteemPress, since you basically have two blogs now (WordPress and Steem), you can still potentially earn in the long run since that is what the blogging platform WordPress is designed for.

What is Vornix?

I’ve first heard about SteemPress weeks ago after it got a 1Million Steem Power delegation. I’m not gonna lie and go ahead say that I was immediately tempted to try it because of its current Steem Power. What exactly does it feel to be upvoted by an account with a 1Million Steem Power? But the moment I signed up for a WordPress account and tried to install the said plugin, this was what I saw:

In order to install a plugin, one must first upgrade to the Business plan. While the prices are quite affordable (I mean I am usually getting $2(P100)-$5(P250) or even more per day here) I am just not too comfortable purchasing things like this with real money.

Where does Vornix fit into all these? Vornix is a new initiative with the aim to support minnows by providing an affordable WordPress hosting plan. Created by @jrvacation, @fr3eze and @seandeanayao. It is a hassle-free solution for WordPress hosting service.

If you are like me who doesn’t have a WordPress account or is someone who have a WordPress account but do not have the ability to install new plugins. Then for a fee of only 3SBD, you can now have your own subdomain under vornix.blog if you just want to try things out. It is also worth to note that you can always migrate the contents to your main domain later if you do wish so.

If all things go well after this post is successfully published both on my WordPress and on the Steem blockchain (I scheduled this one to be posted on Steem 30minutes after WordPress, let’s see how that one goes). I would be doing a separate tutorial from the top as to how I did everything from payment to @vornix(If they don’t have a wordpress business account) upto the successful publication of this post both on Steem and in WordPress for my blogger friends to see and try. I am just that kind of person who needs to try something first before recommending a certain tool or platform to someone. That way if they have questions, I can be more of help to them than more theoretical solutions. XD

Also I would be migrating some of my Steemtools review on my WordPress blog for an easy viewing. So you guys check that out if you have some time. Right now, my blog is all dark solid colors because I’m just too lazy to design it atm. Cheers!

i am actually really interested in this and i will check it find more info about it. Also i will check your post in steempress now and i am really hyped for the post which you mention that will explain further and show us the steps more in depth.

Finally, about the seven day rewards. I get why it came down to that number and also wanna mention that when i first joined steemit we got paid once again after 30 days. we had the regular 7 days and then after 30days we could get again an amount of money. I don't remember if the votes after the seven days counted or it was only depended of the steem's price though.

It indeed is interesting. I don't have any blogs except the one here on Steem, so most of these things are all new to me and besides it doesn't hurt to explore other things out. :) Also, apologies in advance if my blog is too plain simple. I just love simpilicity and solid colors like black.

That seems not to be a bad reward system though. Being paid on the 7th day and on the 30th day. Makes me wonder what issues they have with that kind of system. Right now with a lot of posts being published to the Steem blockchain daily personally I think 7days is just not enough. :)

I think that system was good when we were just a handful of people. Now that we are so many and in the future that we probably gonna be way more we gonna have an issue with the steem-sbd distribution.

Also i think the problem isn't the 7 day period i think it's quite a good idea. My issue and i thought it quite some time is that people don't bother to check our older posts. If you post like me regularly and i think i saw you write that you make a post per day, in your page someone need to scroll down for your other posts. Moreover if he/she visit your profile the first time he/she will probably open the latest post like the others are ''garbage'' :P I think an app or something that would be for only those older post would have been beneficial but i have no clue of coding :P that's another reason the steempress idea is that interesting to me

I agree on everything you just said there. And yeah I have a One Day One Post policy. :) It really is unfortunate when someone visits your blog for the first time and the first thing they see are your personal rant posts or worse a lot of resteems. SteemitInc should do something about how posts are being displayed and fast. XD

My issue and i thought it quite some time is that people don't bother to check our older posts.

Lol so true. Right now the only way people would probably stumble on an older post is when searching for something on google.

a funny story that shows how mostly everyone checks only the first post is that a couple of months ago i went to meet up and there was a person there with a lot of sp. Out of generosity to all the attendees he went to their profiles and upvoted 100% their latest post. His vote was about 21-22$ i think at that time.

In my case i have resteemed a post of a friend and that was the latest post that anyone could check on my profile. guess what post earned the 20$+ :P

On the other hand thank god it was a post of a friend of mine and not some random competition :P but that example i believe shows perfectly what i explained at start

Lol that indeed is a funny one. I would have immediately felt bad about it if it was some random stranger who got the vote. I mean a $20+ is no joke lol

As what I've seen on your, you now rarely do resteems :)

hahaha in general i never do resteems. I think i have made only 2-3 :P I will only resteem posts of friends ( and other but mostly friends) that either have a serious problem or they did some great to help the community. Given the fact that mostly nobody reads the posts except if you have 10.000 followers or 100.000 sp resteems are a waste of time in my mind.

True! Truth be told I only do resteems when a contest I joined to requires it lol

I started using @vornix and @steempress-io two days ago too!!! Now I can have a nice personal blog and still have my Steemit account where I can engage with people and also get incentivized!

That's cool! I myself have always wanted to try having a personal blog(one I can customize). Without Vornix help, I wouldn't even bother to try this one out, it's nice to see what crypto money can do nowadays :)

Agree! Now we can blog in a nice website and it posts on Steemit too! The good thing about using Wordpress is that it is so customizable and it archives ur posts much better than Steemit.

Certainly a good idea and a way for people who already have an active wordpress blog to diversify their ways of earning revenue.

I wonder how all the extra formatting and plugins that can be used in WP will be translated.

I just had this one edited via Steemit.

I think I still have to practice more on formats to determine what code works on both platforms. It was fine on my blog(Wordpress) but here on Steem, most of the formatting didn't work and it looks messed up. I wonder if this one is still eligible for vote though, kind of sucks honestly :)

Congratulation on your first blog post with Vornix & SteemPress! It will take a while for them to check your post. 😆

Ha ha Thanks! Not really expecting that much since I have edited this one out at least 3 times just to fix the formats to my liking. I just can't stand posts that are not justified lol

It will take a while to find the perfect adjustment for any post between Steemit, and Wordpress with SteemPress plugin. I remember I use incorrect tagging for the post too. 😆

Lol I remember that. I honestly laughed out loud after seeing that one, still the longest tag I have ever seen here on Steem btw :)

Also do let me know if you know any link or someone did some tutorials on what codes or formats work in both Wordpress and Steem. Thanks in advance!

There is plenty of tools which can use for works in both. If you create a new post in Steemit, there is a small icon which enables to switch from markdown to HTML format.

Alternatively, you can use https://dillinger.io/ to convert your manual markdown to HTML format and paste it into Wordpress code.

Thank you dear for your this blog related post.

Well done @jlordc! You successfully guessed the match result.
