Warriors in Myeongbujeon of Taebongsa Temple, Iksan City

in steempress •  5 years ago

I've seen lots of warriors in Myeonbujeon or Jijangjeon hall up until now. But strangely enough, I didn't notice the warriors more in detail. I just have looked around and left the hall.

In this visit, I had a chance to look at the warriors more carefully.

What caught my eyes were their hands. There were two warriors left and right in the hall.

The one warrior held the weapon and the yellow dragon in his hands.

Especially the dragon was so impressive, why he held the dragon in his hand like that. Is there any special meaning? In 4 heaven kings gate case, I could see the king held the dragon in his hand. It made estimate there was a story of holding dragon in the hand, in my guess.

The other warrior held the weapons in his hands.

But I was focused on this stomach part. There was a face of the dragon as same as that of 4 heaven kings. It seemed that there seemed a common point between the 4 heaven kings and the warriors in Myeongbujeon.

The dolls look terrific, but the colors of the dolls are very interesting..

Your careful descriptions helped me to understand~^^

Both warriors are looking furious probably to scary an enemy already with their appearance. They are so colorfully done, clever used the red color that already looks warning about the danger. I can see what you mean about dragons they are incorporated in those two figures and that is very well done, I think if people just look without paying attention to details they may even miss this. Thank you for the close up capture and explanation :)

I was fascinated by how all the statues have a different significance, having to do with an event in the life of the buddha. All carry an important message or at the very least, a lesson. It is my understanding that there are over 100 poses and each pose has a distinct hand placement.

The culture of Korea is very difficult to unmask, even with the internet, so I am glad I had the opportunity to experience it myself. Thank you for taking the time and effort to revisit and chronicle these.

As always, a nice day to you.
