Reproduction Rate RR
the gross reproduction rate takes into account current fertility,
not current mortality. To take into account the factor of mortality
measuring population growth, we use net reproduction rates.
Net reproduction rate is defined as the average number
daughters that would be born to a female, if she passed through
life time conforming to the age-specific fertility and mortality rat
of a given year
Net reproduction rate is the number of female children surviving
their reproductive ages or number of female children to one woma
as she passes through child bearing age.
NRR cannot exceed GRR for the reason that in its calculation
also take into account mortality. Both the rates will be equal wher
all the newly born daughters reached the child bearing age ang
passed through it.
If the NRR is exactly one, it indicates that on the basis of current
fertility and mortality rates, a group of newly born females will ex
actly replace itself in the new generation ie, the population will be
increase.
constant. If the NRR is below one, it indicates a declining popula
tion and if it is more than one, the population has a tendency te
The NRR is computed by the following formula
49
NRR =ix WSFRxS
15
Where, i = Magnitude of age class
Female births
Female Population
WSFR = 1000 = B 1000
S = Survival rates
