Simplicity, the art of ease, plainness, effortless and simpleness.

What is simplicity in the eye of a child?

It is Christmas! Millions of kids around the world is waiting for that special person. Yes, the merry maker and the gift bringer with the red suit trimmed with white fur. The man with the white beard and friendly face who drinks our milk and eat our cookies when we are asleep. It is the time of the year for big smiles not only on the faces of the children but also on those, the givers, mom and dads, grandpa and grandma, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles and friends.

I am sure this was the story which unfolded in many households over the past Festive Seasons. This Christmas however was different. Here I blame it on the shoulders of Covid.

Economically life changed for all of us. The gifts were fewer and it was smaller. I saw less parents looking for the most popular, best, biggest and expensive gifts. Those gifts that doesn’t fit in the Christmas stockings. Did it matter? No! I saw the smallest and cheapest gifts being appreciated and accepted with huge excitement and in wonder.

I came to the realization that through the eyes of the child the world was different. They are not bound by the restrictions of size, brand name, colour, race, religion nor creed. For them it is simplicity that counts, living in a beautiful world of colour, rivers, mountain, fairies and super-hero’s.

What is the beauty of simplicity?

Don’t look far for the answer to this question. It is right under our noses. Living a simpler and enjoyable life!
Steve Jobs, American business magnate and co-founder of Apple Inc. once said; “That’s been one of my mantras – focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.”

How do we speak simplicity?

They say that “simplicity is the key to brilliance” and that says it all;

• Don’t be afraid of simplicity
• Don’t complicate things
• Keep it short in what you speak and what you do
• Make sense in what you speak and what you do
• Live a simple life style
• Be a child again

Let this be a New Year resolution for all of us, keep it simple!
