James 1:19 New International Version

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.

I have been thinking about this verse on Sunday when I returned from the church. You know I have been thinking of this verse with levity till I discovered a cross reference to the scripture in the book of Proverbs

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Christian ... Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way. Proverbs 28:26

I think that God wants us guide our ears and mouth as this is the gateway to a man's heart. This implies that our hearts could be tempered with through these two parts of the body which is no doubt among the few entrances in our body. I've Been wondering why the emphasis on this two openings, then I realize that a man's life can be affected positively through his control of the heart. (His eyes, ears, and mouth)

I also realized that a may not control what he sees or listens to, but he definitely could control what goes out of his mouth. The mouth if not controlled could get us into trouble.
Perhaps that is why the scripture says in Proverbs 17:27

A truly wise person uses few words;

If your words are not few, you would likely make a fool of yourself. But my prayer is that God word circumcise our tongue.
