Matthew 4:19
Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men” NKJV
Hello everyone out there, today is Sunday over here in a far away country called Nigeria. I hope that you went to church today to worship God with other brethren cause that’s what we do here in Nigeria. Today’s service was awesome and I had a great time at the church today.
Like I always say, I wouldn’t be stingy to hoard information I know if shared would benefit you. Yes I mean you. Do I also need to remind you that in our kingdom as Christ saved/chosen, we have the obligation of ensuring that we save the lost souls? The summary of it all is that we are saved to save others. So here is the word for the day, I hope it reaches out to someone out there.
In the course of my walk with God especially serving him in the Choir and children’s department where a lot of young people are involved, I get to be asked questions about matters bothering around destiny, or how to fulfill the destiny they have come to know, etc. Believe me, I have really been confused on what to give them as response, but somehow God has been helping me to say something like (answers) which I think satisfies their curiosity.
Firstly I begin by saying that it is only God that knows a man’s destiny, as such, these questions that they asked are exclusively reserved for the Almighty God Himself. So it becomes very hard for any human being like me to attempt any personal answers. Nevertheless, there are general principles that could be employed and engaged in order to know both what destiny is and how to fulfill it.
Peter is our very powerful example today on how to fulfill destiny. From the very beginning when Jesus called him, the instruction was “Follow me and I will make you (fulfill destiny)”, which was fishing men for the kingdom. And that was all that he needed to do, just follow. Then Jesus was crucified, buried and rose again on the third day. And in one of His interactions with His disciples, He spoke to them on how Peter would die to glorify God. And immediately Peter began to enquire on how John the beloved would die, and this was Jesus’ response to Him; “Jesus said to him in John 21:22
“If I will that he remains till I come, what is that to you? You follow me”. NKJV
Take note of this, Peter’s profession was fishing, and he would have remained same till he died without fulfilling his destiny and purpose. However, Jesus made him have the opportunity for fulfilling his purpose and destiny through that short but powerful sentence. “Follow me”
Notice that Jesus repeated the same word He gave to Peter at the beginning. In my own words, this is what Jesus said to him:
Be less concerned about what is happening to someone else’s life around you and do not be bothered about their quick or instant success, but rather stay focused on what I am doing and still will be doing in your life and to where I am leading you to. You just follow me”.
Jesus simply reminded Peter that the secrete to fulfilling destiny was to follow. It is that simple. And here are a few tips on how to follow:
1.Follow the word of God.
2.Follow the Spirit of God.
3.Follow divine instructions as passed on by your pastor, elders or parents.
4.Follow God in daily prayer fellowship.
5.Follow God as you fellowship with the brethren.
