Caribbean Flair

How about some Caribbean flair? This little coin from the Commonwealth of Dominica has lots of it. Let’s take a closer look at it.

Obverse

The front of the coin shows a beautiful Caribbean scenery. In the background, a hydroplane is flying in front of a mountain range. A girl with a beautiful floral dress watches the plane from the edge of a tropical forest. The top of the coin shows us where this all is taking place: on the beautiful Caribbean island Dominica.

Reverse

The first we notice is that it doesn’t say Commonwealth of Dominica on the back. In big letters, we read “EASTERN CARIBBEAN CENTRAL BANK” at the top. This is the monetary authority for a group of eight Caribbean islands. It manages the currency and financial stability for this group of countries. The logo of this bank is a pair of palm leaves. Inside those leaves is an old acquaintance, Queen Elizabeth II.

Conclusion

This coin from the Commonwealth of Dominica shows a beautiful scenery which reminds me of holidays. What’s your take on this Caribbean coin?

I have this series. Some are better than others. I like that they are fairly unique. How many other coins look like tourism ads? ☺️

You're right :D There aren't that many places which mint touristy coins. But it's a nice change.

I like it @bauloewe. It is something very different to the tradition coins and has a very clean looking design.
