After being added to the @ssg-community, I'd like to share a very fitting coin with you. The "mermaid rising" coin from Fiji. As Fiji commissioned the Scottsdale mint with the mintage it probably never saw Fiji soil in its life. But it is still an interesting motive nonetheless.
Obverse
The obverse shows pretty much what the name is promising. A mermaid rising from the depths of the oceans and surfacing. Fiji chooses a very cool way of displaying this. They made the whole water in a frosted finish and showed only the mermaid herself in a mirror finish. Drops of water appear in her hair as frosted spots. That way the design really stands out from the background.
Reverse
The reverse shows the coat of arms of Fiji along with its denomination of 1 Fijian dollar. Underneath the coat of arms is the motto of Fiji. Rerevaka na Kalou ka doka na Tui which translates to Fear God and honour the King. Conclusion
In my opinion, the rising mermaid is a cool coin design. The only drawback is that specks of the frosted finish are missing. As I've taken it right out of mint packaging, this has to be some Q&A control issue, or it's intentional. But this issue doesn't detract from the overall appeal of the coin. I hope you enjoyed this little peek. I rarely see mermaid themed coins produced by mints, and this is the first time I came across one. Do you own mermaid coins as well? If yes, please share them :).
Finally the temptation of silver was too much for Elly, and she overcame her fear of ocean themed coins
That is a sweet coin for sure!
