Two dragons, discovering fire. What a fascinating design. Now let's see what this coin is really about.

Obverse
This coin from Niue shows an old Chinese motive actually. Two dragons encircling a flaming pearl. The pearl symbolises wisdom and the dragons good luck and power.
On the surface of this silver disc the old design comes to life. The background isn't your usual mirror finish but an interesting comb pattern, most likely based on a Voronoi diagram. Anyhow it complements the two reptiles perfectly.
The pearl situated perfectly in the center splits this design in two. But the real final touch is given by the spike pattern around the edge. It almost gives the illusion of the front being rounded, and the two dragons are flying on top of the world surrounded by mountains.

Reverse
After we turn the coin around the comb pattern continues on the back, same as with the spikes around the edge. It gives the reverse an interesting touch and improves upon the usual Queen Elizabeth II. design. I like this design choice. Conclusion
This double dragon design is an excellent design. The Voronoi pattern complements the design perfectly. I hope that the New Zealand Mint continues this design because this could lead to a stunning series.
What's your take on this? Do you like the double dragons as well?

Elly want's to fly too, she gets really reminiscent while looking at those two dragons.
