The above coin might look just like an ordinary 1977 half dollar but it is actually a magic coin. I am serious it really is a magic coin. Let me explain. My wife and son were taking back last week’s half-dollars that we sorted through. While putting them in the coin counting machine at the bank this coin got rejected. My son took it and looked a little closer at it.
He told my wife that it looked broken and like someone cut it. He then dropped it and it split open. To reveal that it was in fact a half-dollar and 20 Centavos Mexican coin in one.
My son was so excited. As soon as he got home he ran up to me and said he found this special Mexican coin hidden inside of one of the half dollars. I had no idea what he was talking about. Then he showed me. I was very impressed.
After a little searching on google we found out that these coins are made from real half-dollars that are milled out to fit a 20 Centavos Mexican coin. They then are used in magic tricks. It is really a cool coin and the detail and work it took to perfectly cut out the half dollar is truly amazing.
Even though it was not silver this still was a very impressive find for my 9 year old son. You can buy them on ebay anywhere from $5 to $75 dollars. This one however is going into my son’s coin collection. I am one proud dad that he took the time to examine the coin and noticed that something was off with it. He now is a proud owner of a magic coin!
Great find! you should also be able to fit a 2 peso 22kt gold coin in there if I am not mistaken.. Great for keeping a little gold hidden, smuggled...
