Finding a way forward for SteemSilverGold

in steemsilvergold •  7 years ago

Deep breath. Ok. This has been a tough week. I know that emotions are running a bit high and I’m not immune to that either. If I am being totally honest I’ve felt sick about this all week and I very nearly just walked away from all of this. But this is one of those times I know I need to push emotions to the side, put on the big boy pants, have those hard conversations and make the tough decisions. So that’s what I’ve tried to do. With that said I want to just focus on what we can do going forward and try to stay positive.

As I wrote in my other post, SilverGoldBotty and SteemSilverGold are not the same thing. If they have different ownership models and different objectives then that is fine, there is no reason that they can’t co-exist and there doesn’t need to be any conflict. There has been some clarification of the situation after the recent meeting and that is a good and healthy thing. What that meeting showed me is that the community of SteemSilverGold is actually quite strong and it is passionate – This is all VERY good!

So how do we go forward? There are some members of SteemSilverGold who are unhappy with SilverGoldBotty and they will likely opt-out of supporting it. There is no reason why those members should not be able to create and support a new bot with whatever governance model they want. It is actually probably a healthy thing for SteemSilverGold members to have a choice between supporting 2 bots. Members can decide for themselves whether to support one or both, or neither. The way this platform works it is unlikely that there will be any significant negative impact on their SilverGoldBotty vote value because if a few people drop membership of SilverGoldBotty then remaining members will just get a larger share of the voting power. It will even itself out so those people who are concerned about their ROI need not be worried.

I previously offered my time and expertise to help the members of the SteemSilverGold to set up a new community owned and run bot. This offer still stands and I am not asking for any remuneration or compensation as I am happy to donate to something I believe in. While I am not the most active member I do believe in SteemSilverGold and what it stands for. My only condition on my work is that there is proper governance put into place for any new bot and that it is effectively communication so that misunderstandings and conflict like what has occurred this week can be avoided in future. Hit me up on Discord if you want to talk to me about this.

Finally, I would like to apologise if I have upset or offended anyone with my comments and actions this week. Even though I often suppress it, I am actually a very passionate individual with a very strong moral imperative. It does cause me a lot of sleepless nights but it is who I am as an individual. I never meant to upset or offend others so please accept my apology if you feel I have been out of line.

The biggest problem in any community is corruption in the form of "hidden motives" (or even agendas) which bring about the too often seen in practice, conflict of interests and then the collusion factor.

Nothing new in any community, just because we are into the alternate scene as far as currencies goes, doesn't automatically change the way society has programmed us.

Greed is the most dangerous of all motivators out there!

Be good, stay true to the idea of common good and you'll sleep well at nights.

Thanks @jackmiller I did sleep a bit better last night. We're not out of the woods yet though.

Vote @jackmiller for witness. He's a good man. @ironshield

Hiya @buggedout! Put up yer dogs and relax. Anyone who got offended this week has only themselves to blame.

Well said!😊

You were a huge help with your posts and in the meeting. I thank you very much for contributions to SSG

What he said....................

Thanks. If we can find a way forward that benefits everyone then it will all be worth it.

I've listened to the whole conversation and can I just say that I thought you were very "on-point". You came across perfectly and conducted yourself better than I would have under the circumstances that unfolded. I think it took a few people by surprise, from the build up I think we knew what was coming but it was still a kick in the teeth when those words finally came out "I own Stax"!!!

A new bot would be a great idea. Run, maintained and owned by the community for the community. I will help anyway I can. #SSG4life

Thanks, I really appreciate that. It was very tough and I was a bit shaky there for a while. I am relieved to find that others shared or at least valued my view :)

I think that a great step toward undestanding was done. There are no definitive solutions about Stax or another bot, but we will do our best to keep steemsilvergold growing. As a small plankton I will continue posting daily about coins, silver and gold and I will wait for the solutions that I know will come. Live long and prosper.

Thank you. Did you know that the proper response is "Peace and long life" ?

Voicing a range of your thoughts is good
I appreciated your previous post revealing your heightened concerns.
You may have the same interest as others but your own personal value chain is different. Sometimes that difference will cause uneasiness as there is a direct conflict with your own pov.

They are seperate topics. Your interest in commodities is mutually exclusive to your values.
But it is the community that links both.

Good on you for standing by your values and expressing your concerns.

You were not out of line at all...and after taking some time to think about all of this, I’m kinda landing in the same camp as you...although I’m not happy at all how things with Staxx landed. Greed is disgusting. I’m slowly burning.

There are always growing pains in any community and throw in money and things are almost guaranteed to go tits up.
The way we move forward defines all participants and it’s inevitable some will step forward and some will step out.
I for one think this community has a common passion for all things precious metal and as long as we keep that at the centre of what we do it all work out fine.
#keeponsteeming #keeponstacking

I totally agree man. Growing pains is very normal and if we stay focused on the good stuff we'll only be stronger once we come out the other side.

I am in favor of giving stax a second chance. Those not wanting in anymore should now tell Stax officially to opt out. That is if STax is not to offended by some messages. I am an older guy and the F*** words I really hate.

There is always a chance to make things right, but I think that some of the community trust has been lost and I'm not sure it will be easily regained.

I am a bit of a free market guy so I don't see a problem with letting people opt-in or out according to their own decisions in their own time. If people have paid for March then they're entitled to get vote support for March. Especially if Staxx is now an investment bot.

2 bots will not work. It will divide the group in 2.

Either Stax needs to go are we need a new group tag

I disagree. Other communities like MSP have multiple bots to support it, run by different people with different focus. I don't think SSG needs to be any different in that respect.

This community has my support in any way I can.

Totally agree with you on this! I got your back no matter how this issue turns out to be :)
