I became a silver stacker a little over a year ago. There is a lot of information available on the internet, but it took a fair amount of time to weed through it before I made my first investment.

Why did I start buying physical silver?
There are 3 reasons to hold silver. As an investment, as an inflation hedge, or for survival purposes. I like to tell myself I have done it for all 3 reasons. As an investment, you are hoping the price goes up due to supply and demand. With the price of silver around $17 range right now it is quite low. Considering it is used a lot in technology one would have to speculate it will go up. Anyone living in the US and half paying attention to the economy has to see the potential inflation in our future. And finally, perhaps a pessimistic approach, I want to be prepared with silver to barter with just in case the SHTF.
Why Silver and not Gold?
I find silver is much easier for me to acquire on a small budget. I can come up with a couple hundred dollars at a time to buy 10oz without too much pain. Coming up with $1200-$1500 for an ounce of gold is not as easy.
I read some advice that said if you are investing less than $10,000 stick with silver. Over $10,000 than invest in both. This seems like a good strategy to me.
Also considering the silver to gold ratio is way out of wack compared to the historical average suggests that silver is the better deal right now.

A Good way to Start
One of the things I discovered is that a lot of the major bullion dealers have special spot deals for new customers. This is an excellent way to get your feet wet and try the options. Will you prefer rounds or bars, do you want just government issues silver currency, or maybe diversify across it all. Regardless what you end up focusing on, it is hard to go wrong with spot deals at the current silver price.
I have listed below the "New Customer" deals offered by some of the major sellers that I am aware of. I am in no way affiliated with any of these companies nor do I get anything for you clicking on their links or purchasing from them.
I have personally made purchase from some of these companies and the others are on my list to purchase from. To date, all silver transactions I have had through online suppliers have gone flawlessly. However, any purchase is at your own risk and make sure they are a reputable company before you act on a deal that is too good to pass.
If anyone knows of other spot deals, please leave a comment.
And Finally, I believe most of these companies only ship US domestic.

Interesting take on investing...I have been putting some money in Crypto but I really never thought about investing in the raw materials behind the tech...could you do an article on investing in other raw materials if you have that information? Thanks

Ya, I have been investing more in crypto than silver lately myself. It is hard to not jump on the crypto wagon with it doing so well. I don't have any insight on other metals. One issue with silver (and gold) is that the price is highly manipulated by the comex. Question is how long can they continue before it blows.

This is awesome and thanks for sharing. So many coins I've never known/seen. As a new stacker (started a few months ago) I appreciate all this research you've shared of different coins.
You should check out phelimint.com. You can buy with Steem on his site!

A lot of them are now accepting bitcoin, which is a foot in the door. It won't take long for the to expand to other cryptos.

Do you have any government issued silver dollars or the like? I’m wondering if they are worth anymore than the silver content. I want to clean them up just so they look nice. I know they say not to do that, but if it’s not worth more, what’s the harm??

I do have some silver eagles, but mostly just rounds and bars. Government issued coins do carry a premium. I'm no expert, but I believe different years carry different premiums to collectors. In a SHTF scenario, the government issued coins will probably carry a higher value/acceptability to the laymen as well.

I don’t know much about coin collecting either, so the type of coin, I’m really not concerned with. I started collecting silver for the same reasons you mentioned above. We’ve always been a one income family, so out of necessity, we’ve been on a budget (which is okay with me because I’m a tightwad). I’ve never been able to purchase more than a coin or two at a time, but over time they stack up. And $20 or $40 a couple times a month isn’t a real big deal.

I prefer the term 'frugal' 😎 Slow and steady wins the race. Problem is that most folks can't control their impulse buying. Not ever being a smoker and not a big coffee drinker it is baffling to me the money people just throw away. I don't know many smokers at all anymore, most have quit. But do know quite a few that have to have their $7 Star Bucks coffee at least once a day, if not more. Just think the amount of silver you can stack overtime. Nothing against coffee, by the way, just don't see the value of paying a premium for it.

Those are some sweet deal's. Zero over spot is always sweet. Apmex had a few zero spot deal's for black Friday and Christmas eve and new years. I missed the first two but i got the last deal. Felt proud lol :)

APMEX is a great place to buy from. I didn't list them because they don't have a standing "welcome" package. They actually offer more spot deals than anybody else (though JM Bullion does too). Key is to get on their mailing list if you aren't already. They send out daily deals and occasionally there are spot deals. I guess it depends on their inventory. Secondary market 10oz bars seems to be a popular one. I guess people are giving up and silver and caching out. Our gain😉

I usually search their inventory trying to find that one coin that is a really good deal. Every now and then they have a 2 oz coin that turns out to be a really good deal. And I even compared it to the 10 oz and it was only a few cents more.

I'm definitely gong to check on a few of those deal's. Right after the litecoin wave that's coming. .:)

That's my problem, their are too many "good deals" in crypto currently that I have been throwing my spare change at. So my silver stacking is suffering ☹️

I understand. Been struggling to keep that balance. there's a good chance to silver prices will be released sometime this year but who knows when. So for now it's a long-term investment.

If what they are saying the possibility for $500 Oz it's still a pretty good long-term investment.
