I received a couple of comments about the silver bar in my Silver Stack as part of the @steemsilvergold stacking contest. I mistakenly reported that I thought it was a kilo. I knew it was heavy...but a Kilo is only about one third the size. I actually had to pull it back out to see, because I honestly forgot the weight. While I had it out, I snapped a photo.

The bar is a 100 ounce bar from elemetal. I purchased it from Provident Metals, which is my favorite source. And they accept bitcoin. I usually pay by check because it is cheaper. This bar was sold for .64 over spot, making it very affordable. It is not longer in stock, so I looked up a good alternative for any of you wanting to add a hunk of silver to the stack. Provident metals currently features an Asahi 100 ounce bar which is even sweeter at .59 over spot. The current cash price is $1788.

The Asahi looks roughly stamped, but is shiny. As you can see, I didn't purchase this bar because it was pretty. It has rough cut marks on the ends as well as a marred surface. The stamp is fairly clean with easy to read lettering and logo. You can see the discoloration from handling...that is the way it arrived. I keep it packaged the way it came and have only taken it out three times (as of today).

I forget what I paid for this bar, but it was probably high 1600s or low 1700s when I purchased it. Other than serving as an investment, I am not sure how practical this would be in a SHTF situation. But you never know. I bought it because I liked it. I wanted something with some weight to it. Worst case scenario, this would make an effective bludgeon tool. :)

That is a beautiful hunk of metal. Congrats!

100 Troy oz Silver bars are impressive.

That's an impressive chunk of metal you've got there! @ironshield

What does .59 over spot mean? Does that mean .59% over the spot price of silver or 59% over the spot price of silver?

Good question. .59 cents per ounce over spot price.

So if you bought one ounce and the price was $17 per ounce you'd pay $17.59 correct?

Exactly. And provident has free shipping for an order that size. To boot.

When the first large rock of gold was found in North Carolina, the people who found it, not knowing what it was, used it as a door stop.

Nice. A million dollar doorstop. :)
